Hypoxic burden and angiogenic factors in patients with myocardial infarction and obstructive sleep apnea

2019

Introduction: The amount and severity of hypoxia have been related to risk of cardiovascular events. Aim: To determine the relationship between nocturnal hypoxic burden and pro- angiogenic factors in patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and myocardial infarction (MI). Method: A prospective, observational study in patients with a first acute MI. Eligible patients underwent a polysomnography within 30 days after MI, and a serum blood sample was drawn in order to measure a panel of angiogenic factors by Luminex technology. A hypoxic burden index (HBI) was calculated as the integral area under the desaturation curve (obtained by calculating the integral of the oxygen saturation reduction…

Analytical parameters and vital signs in patients subjected to dental extraction.

2017

BACKGROUND: Dental consultation may provoke stress to the patient, especially when a dental surgery is going to be performed, stressful situations can cause a reaction in the sympathetic nervous system that could lead to cardiovascular alterations. Blood pressure and cardiac frequency are used often as an indirect measurement and this parameters combined can serve as good indicators of stress. Objective: Analyze the changes in vital signs and analytical parameters induced by a dental extraction. MATERIAL AND METHODS: 24 healthy patients who required a simple dental extraction underwent to a blood test and motorization of their pre- and post-extraction vital signs before, at 2 and 48 hours a…

Usefulness of Cerebral Oximetry in TBI by NIRS

2021

Measurement of cerebral oximetry by near-infrared spectroscopy provides continuous and non-invasive information about the oxygen saturation of haemoglobin in the central nervous system. This is especially important in the case of patients with traumatic brain injuries. Monitoring of cerebral oximetry in these patients could allow for the diagnosis of inadequate cerebral oxygenation caused by disturbances in cerebral blood flow. It could enable identification of episodes of hypoxia and cerebral ischemia. Continuous bedside measurement could facilitate the rapid diagnosis of intracranial bleeding or cerebrovascular autoregulation disorders and accelerate the implementation of treatment. Howev…

COVID‐19 in older adults: What are the differences with younger patients?

2020

Aim The present study aimed both to gain knowledge on the distinctive clinical characteristics of older adults with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19), in comparison with those of younger patients, and to identify risk factors for mortality. Methods A retrospective observational study was carried out of patients consecutively admitted to Doctor Peset University Hospital, Valencia (Spain) for COVID‐19 from 11 March to 28 April 2020. Every case was diagnosed by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction or by serology test to detect antibodies. Demographic details, clinical characteristics, laboratory findings on admission and complications of each case were collected from electronic me…

Feedback Linearization Based Nonlinear Control of SynRM Drives Accounting for Self- and Cross-Saturation

2022

This article proposes a nonlinear controller based on feedback linearization (FL) for synchronous reluctance motor (SynRM) drives which takes into consideration the magnetic saturation. The proposed nonlinear FL control based control technique has been developed starting from the theoretical definition of an original dynamic model of the SynRM taking into consideration both the self- and the cross-saturation effects. Such a control technique permits the dynamics of both the speed and axis flux loops to be maintained constant independently from the load and the saturation of the iron core in both constant flux and variable direct axis flux operating conditions. Finally, sensitivity of the pe…
