An OFDM Receiver Exploiting Multipath Diversity

We propose a novel receiver structure, to be employed with standard Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing transmitters, capable of exploiting the multipath diversity of wireless channels. The proposed technique is based on cancellation of inter-block interference arising in the guard interval and linear detection techniques. It features a low implementation complexity and is easily generalized to MIMO systems and non-linear detection techniques.

A fixed-bed, photocatalytic laboratory reactor aimed to degrade pollutants from water streams was designed and built. Quartz wool coated with a thin film of TiO2 was employed as the reactor filling. The photocatalyst was placed in the reactor forming a loose packing to guarantee the intimate contact among reactants, photons, and the photocatalytic surface. This reactor was employed to study the photocatalytic decomposition of a model pollutant (formic acid). Gyrotrons are microwave sources whose operation is based on the stimulated cyclotron radiation of electrons oscillating in a static magnetic field. This process is described by the system of two complex differential equations: nonlinear first order ordinary differential equation with parameter (averaged equation of electron motion) and second order partial differential equation for high frequency field (RF field) in resonator (Schrödinger type equation for the wave amplitude). Statistics of reversible bond dynamics observed in force-clamp spectroscopy

We present a detailed analysis of two-state trajectories obtained from force-clamp spectroscopy (FCS) of reversibly bonded systems. FCS offers the unique possibility to vary the equilibrium constant in two-state kinetics, for instance the unfolding and refolding of biomolecules, over many orders of magnitude due to the force dependency of the respective rates. We discuss two different kinds of counting statistics, the event-counting usually employed in the statistical analysis of two-state kinetics and additionally the so-called cycle-counting. A nuclear-decay spectroscopy study of the neutron-deficient isotope $^{196}\mathrm{At}$ is reported where an isotopically pure beam was produced using the selective Resonance Ionization Laser Ion Source and On-Line Isotope Mass Separator (CERN). The fine-structure $\ensuremath{\alpha}$ decay of $^{196}\mathrm{At}$ allowed the low-energy excited states in the daughter nucleus $^{192}\mathrm{Bi}$ to be investigated. First β -decay scheme of Nb107 : New insight into the low-energy levels of Mo107

Monoisotopic samples of $^{107}\mathrm{Nb}$ nuclei, produced in the proton-induced fission of $^{238}\mathrm{U}$ and separated using the IGISOL mass separator coupled to a Penning trap, were used to perform $\ensuremath{\beta}$- and $\ensuremath{\gamma}$-coincidence spectroscopy of $^{107}\mathrm{Mo}$. Gamma transitions and excited levels in $^{107}\mathrm{Mo}$ were observed in $\ensuremath{\beta}$ decay for the first time. Spin and parity $1/{2}^{+}$ for the ground state of $^{107}\mathrm{Mo}$ is proposed, to replace the previous $5/{2}^{+}$ assignment. The experimental $\ensuremath{\beta}$-decay half-life of $^{107}\mathrm{Nb}$ was estimated to be $0.27\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.02$ s.
β decay of Cd127 and excited states in In127

A dedicated spectroscopic study of the β decay of 127Cd was conducted at the IGISOL facility at the University of Jyvaskyla. Following high-resolution mass separation in a Penning trap, β-γ-γ coincidences were used to considerably extend the decay scheme of 127In. The β-decaying 3/2+ and 11/2- states in 127Cd have been identified with the 127Cd ground state and the 283-keV isomer. Their respective half-lives have been measured to 0.45(+12-8)s and 0.36(4) s. The experimentally observed β feeding to excited states of 127In and the decay scheme of 127In are discussed in conjunction with large-scale shell-model calculations.
Beta decay of neutron-rich Co: Probing single-particle states at and above the N=40 subshell closure

Neutron-rich Co nuclei with A=66–70 were produced by the laser-ionization isotope-separation on-line method. The β decay from these nuclei has been studied. A case example is given by reporting on the observed decay scheme of 68Co. The half life of the ground-state decay of this nucleus was measured to be 0.21(3) seconds. In addition, a new β decaying isomer half life of 1.16(25) seconds was discovered. The level scheme of 68Ni has been significantly extended, and an interpretation of the observed levels is made by assuming that the N=40 gap has the characteristics of a shell closure.
