Nonlinear embeddings: Applications to analysis, fractals and polynomial root finding

2016

We introduce $\mathcal{B}_{\kappa}$-embeddings, nonlinear mathematical structures that connect, through smooth paths parameterized by $\kappa$, a finite or denumerable set of objects at $\kappa=0$ (e.g. numbers, functions, vectors, coefficients of a generating function...) to their ordinary sum at $\kappa \to \infty$. We show that $\mathcal{B}_{\kappa}$-embeddings can be used to design nonlinear irreversible processes through this connection. A number of examples of increasing complexity are worked out to illustrate the possibilities uncovered by this concept. These include not only smooth functions but also fractals on the real line and on the complex plane. As an application, we use $\mat…

Religious Organizations and Local Self-government Units as Entities Cooperating in The Enforcement of Criminal Judgements

2019

Związki wyznaniowe oraz jednostki samorządu terytorialnego to podmioty współdziałające w wykonywaniu kar, środków karnych, kompensacyjnych, zabezpieczających, zapobiegawczych oraz przepadku. Można je również traktować w kategoriach organów społecznej kontroli nad wykonywaniem tych orzeczeń. Współdziałanie takich podmiotów uzyskało rangę dyrektywy ustawowej i służyć ma readaptacji społecznej skazanych i zapobieganiu przestępczości. W przypadku przedstawicieli związków wyznaniowych współdziałanie posiada także charakter wychowawczy i poprawczy. Psychobiosocial States as Mediators of the Effects of Basic Psychological Need Satisfaction on Burnout Symptoms in Youth Sport

2020

Sport participation in youngsters has been associated with long-lasting psychosocial and health-related benefits as well as increased levels of physical exercise in adulthood. The objective of this study was to examine some psychological factors of fundamental importance in enhancing sport participation and preventing burnout. A sample of 520 girls and boys aged 13–18 years, practicing individual or team sports, took part in a cross-sectional study to assess basic psychological need satisfaction, psychobiosocial states, and burnout symptoms. The specific purpose was to examine the mediation effects of emotion-related (i.e., functional/dysfunctional) psychobiosocial states on the relationshi…

Agreement between parent and child report on parental practices regarding dietary, physical activity and sedentary behaviours: the ENERGY cross-secti…

2014

Background Parents and their parenting practices play an important role in shaping their children’s environment and energy-balance related behaviours (EBRBs). Measurement of parenting practices can be parent- or child-informed, however not much is known about agreement between parent and child perspectives. This study aimed to assess agreement between parent and child reports on parental practices regarding EBRBs across different countries in Europe and to identify correlates of agreement. Methods Within the ENERGY-project, a cross-sectional survey was conducted among 10–12 year old children and their parents in eight European countries. Both children and parents filled in a questionnaire o…

La Self-Efficacy dell’insegnante per l’inclusione

2020

The study aims to reflect on the training of future primary school teachers by starting from the use of the e-portfolio as an innovative tool to promote the acquisition of reflective and self-evaluation competence within the flipped classroom. The research involved 154 students of Primary Education Master’s Degree Course of the University of Palermo attending to the Docimology course during the academic year 2020/2021. This paper presents the theoretical assumptions objectives and operating methods of a path that made the use of the e-portfolio in flipped classroom to promote the development of docimological skills in higher education. It was hypothesized that the training intervention designed according to the principles of the flippmethodology and through the use of the e-portfolio would have contributed to the development of students’ self-evaluation skills during the 30 hours of the Docimology course.Settore M-PED/04 - Pedagogia Sperimentale

What factors relate to three profiles of perception of motor competence in young children?

2022

The study aims were to 1) examine profiles of perception of motor competence (PMC) in relation to actual motor competence (AMC), i.e. under-estimators (UEs), realistic estimators (REs) and over-estimators (OEs) and 2) investigate associations between the profiles and selected socioecological factors at the individual, family and environmental levels. PMC (Pictorial Scale of Perceived Movement Skill Competence) and AMC (Test of Gross Motor Development-Third Edition) were administered to a representative sample of children from 37 childcare centres in Finland (n=441;6.2±0.6yrs;52% boys). Socioecological factors were investigated using a parental questionnaire. The three profiles were formed b…

Exploring the role of teachers’ attitudes towards inclusive education, their self-efficacy, and collective efficacy in behaviour management in teache…

2023

Using a sample of 384 Finnish teachers, in this study we explored how teachers' attitudes towards inclusive education, self-efficacy, and collective efficacy in behaviour management affect their behaviours in teaching appropriate behaviours to students, and how teachers' attitudes, self-efficacy, and collective efficacy mediate the effect of background variables on teacher behaviour. The results revealed that teachers’ self-efficacy and collective efficacy significantly predicted their behaviour. The number of students with attention or behavioural problems has an indirect negative effect on teacher behaviour, mediated by teacher self-efficacy. peerReviewed

Significant Moments in a Couple Therapy Session: Towards the Integration of Different Modalities of Analysis

2020

This chapter presents a couple therapy session from four different research perspectives: The verbal dialogue was analysed with the Dialogical Investigations of Happenings of Change method, the embodied reactions of each participant were analysed by examining the electrodermal activity of each participant, and nonverbal synchrony was observed between the participants. Stimulated Recall Interviews, conducted individually after the session, were used to gain insights on the participants’ thoughts and feelings concerning particular moments in the session. We wished to determine what could be learned from the embodied reactions of the participants in couple therapy, including whether the data o…
