Bilingual corporate websites - from translation to transcreation?
2013
Published version of an article in the journal: Journal of Specialised Translation. Also available from the publisher at: http://www.jostrans.org/issue20/art_rike.pdf Open Access As an increasing number of companies see the world as their marketplace, bilingual and/or multilingual websites are becoming increasingly common, and the demand for translations in this domain is growing. Corporate websites are multimodal, and verbal messages, images, layout and sometimes animations and sound interact to create the rhetoric on the site. With web texts being instantly available to readers anywhere, the translator’s role as a cultural mediator attains a special significance as the texts may be access…
Ģeometrisko zīmju un to uztveres semiotiska analīze latviešu zīmolos
2016

Norwegian Religious Education Workbooks after World War II: Exploring Teachers’ Workbook Constructions by Interpreting Traces of Textbooks and Nation…
2010
Twenty religious education (RE) workbooks covering half a century were examined in a search for RE teachers’ typical patterns of workbook construction. Three chronological main types were distinguished: “the biblical workbook,” “the workbook of Christian cultural nurture,” and “the RE workbook of diversity.” Of greater interest, however, were the particularities found in a few workbooks produced in the two interims between the chronological types. This article discusses—in the light of collective memory theory, social semiotics, and Norwegian RE history—the meaning of the teachers’ implicit contributions to the typical as well as the untypical workbook constructions. The concept of an “irre…
Frank and Johnny with Evie: Ontological Shifts in a J.R. Ackerley Novel
2018
This contribution tries to investigate the question of how to frame, from the point of view of the af liation models, the relationship with pets. In this regard, We Think the World of You reveals as an exemplary text. The novel in question will be considered as a privileged place where the experience of relationship with ani- mals is assessed, while programs and forms of an interspecies living together take form.
Sacrificio in regime mediatico. Dal fatto al senso, e ritorno
2019
Today we live in a society and in a historical moment that is losing the sense of sacrifice, that is the pertinent interweavings that bind - with respect to the theme of the meat diet and the preliminary killing of the animal for food - man and animals, man and other men through the animal, the animal with other animals through man, not without the necessary inclusion of the cultural context, on the one hand, and divinity and the sacred, on the other. If meaning is given - according to the dictate of semiotics - in the networks of relations that compose it (where - according to the structuralist dictate - relations are primary and related elements secondary), the loss of the sense of sacrif…
Animismi animali
2023
2019
For semiotics, the question of the talking animal is evidence but, in other ways, it is something unthought of, a theme that still needs to be worked on and discussed in view of new models of reflection and analysis. It is an evidence because talking animals are the norm in fairy tales, in legends, myths, fiction and so on: all material that, adequately analysed, has led to the theory of narrativity, where a non-human actor can play even very complex attitudinal roles. Even very complex ones. However, this is also something unthought of because, after all, narrative grammar, in its interplay between actors and actants, has in some way humanised animals, situating itself within an epistemolo…
