Application of the CIPP model in the study of factors that promote intercultural sensitivity

2012

The present study proposes a group of factors (related to self, context and process) favouring the development of intercultural sensitivity. A social diagnosis was performed in the Spanish province of Castellón in order to identify these factors by means of a correlational study. A non-probabilistic but representative sample consisting of 995 people from 37 different countries living in this province was used. Data were collected by means of an adaptation of the scale proposed by Chen and Starosta (2000) for the assessment of intercultural sensitivity. Results showed four profiles, and their main characteristics were studied. Variables such as country of origin, gender, academic background,…

The temporal dimension in the understanding of maternal sensitivity in caregiver-infant interactions: The 'Early Mother-Child Interaction Coding Syst…

2021

Abstract Caregiver-child interaction is known to play a central role in children’s socioemotional development, yet the diversity of measures commonly used to evaluate it call into question the nature of the construct being assessed. Contingency within caregiver-child interactions has been identified as a key dyadic process that requires taking a temporal perspective to evaluating interactions. The Early Mother-Child Interaction Coding System is a psychometrically sound measure that sequentially code the flow of interactive and non-interactive behaviours within a caregiver-infant system. Its use of the framework of nonlinear dynamical systems (NDS) expands our understanding of contingent car…

Looking for the dichromatic version of a colour vision model

2004

Different hypotheses on the sensitivity of photoreceptors and post-receptoral mechanisms were introduced in different colour vision models to derive acceptable dichromatic versions. Models with one (Ingling and T'sou, Guth et al, Boynton) and two linear opponent stages (DeValois and DeValois) and with two non-linear opponent stages (ATD95) were used. The L- and M-cone sensitivities of red–green defectives were either set to zero (cone-loss hypothesis) or replaced by that of a different cone-type (cone-replacement hypothesis), whereas for tritanopes the S-cone sensitivity was always assumed to be zero. The opponent mechanisms were either left unchanged or nulled in one or in all the opponent…

Potential application of some wide band gap materials for UV dosimetry

2005

Properties of some wide band gap materials–natural and CVD diamonds – have been studied for their potential application in UV dosimetry, using methods of optically stimulated luminescence and thermoluminescence. The observed properties are compared with those of the previously studied AlN ceramics. From the OSL excitation spectra, it follows that spectral sensitivity of the studied materials falls mainly into the UVC range, OSL and TL emission spectra are located within the visible light region, thus suitable for usual photodetectors. OSL stimulation spectra of the studied materials have a continuous character and are located in a broad visible/near infrared spectral region implying that th…

Production of Norspermidine Contributes to Aminoglycoside Resistance in pmrAB Mutants of Pseudomonas aeruginosa

2019

Emergence of resistance to polymyxins in Pseudomonas aeruginosa is mainly due to mutations in two-components systems, that promote addition of 4-amino-4-deoxy-L-arabinose to the lipopolysaccharide (LPS) through upregulation of operon arnBCADTEF-ugd (arn) expression. Here, we demonstrate that mutations occurring in different domains of histidine kinase PmrB or in response regulator PmrA result in coresistance to aminoglycosides and colistin. All seventeen clinical strains tested exhibiting such a cross-resistance phenotype were found to be pmrAB mutants. As shown by gene deletion experiments, the decreased susceptibility of the mutants to aminoglycosides was independent from operon arn but r…

Pyrocoll, an Antibiotic, Antiparasitic and Antitumor Compound Produced by a Novel Alkaliphilic Streptomyces Strain

2003

A new secondary metabolite was detected in the culture extract of Streptomyces sp. AK 409 by HPLC-diode-array screening. The metabolite was identified as pyrocoll, which is known to be a constituent of cigarette smoke. Pyrocoll is known as a synthetic compound, but until now had not been isolated as a natural product from a microorganism. The compound showed biological activity against various Arthrobacter strains, filamentous fungi, several pathogenic protozoa, and some human tumor cell lines.
