Fixed point theory for almost convex functions

Traditionally, metric fixed point theory has sought classes of spaces in which a given type of mapping (nonexpansive, assymptotically or generalized nonexpansive, uniformly Lipschitz, etc.) from a nonempty weakly compact convex set into itself always has a fixed point. In some situations the class of space is determined by the application while there is some degree of freedom in constructing the map to be used. With this in mind we seek to relax the conditions on the space by considering more restrictive types of mappings.

We prove an upper bound for the first Dirichlet eigenvalue of the p-Laplacian operator on convex domains. The result implies a sharp inequality where, for any convex set, the Faber-Krahn deficit is dominated by the isoperimetric deficit.

The nesting of two-dimensional irregular shapes is a common problem which is frequently encountered by a number of industries where raw material has to be, as economically as possible, cut from a given stock sheet. A frequently recurring problem as far as cutting stock is concerned, is how to obtain the best nesting of some pieces of flat patterns which occupy minimalarea convex enclosure. Convexly generic curves in R 3

We study curves immersed in R 3, with special interest in the description of their convex hull frontier structure from a global viewpoint. Genericity conditions are set for these curves by looking at the singularities of height functions on them. We define panel structures for convexly generic curves and work out numerical relations involving the number of tritangent support planes. As a consequence, a generic version of the 4-vertex theorem for convex curves in R 3 is obtained.

The bis(mu-phenoxo) (FeNiIII)-Ni-II compound [Fe-III(N-3)(2)LNiII(H2O)(CH3CN)](ClO4) (1) and the bis(mu-phenoxo)-mu-acetate/bis(mu-phenoxo)-bis(mu-acetate) (FeNiII)-Ni-III compound {[Fe-III(OAc)LNiII(H2O)(mu-OAc)](0.6)center dot[(FeLNiII)-L-III(mu-OAc)(2)](0.4)}(ClO4)center dot 1.1H(2)O (2) have been synthesized from the Robson type tetraiminodiphenol macrocyclic ligand H2L, which is the [2 + 2] condensation product of 4-methyl-2,6-diformylphenol and 2,2'-dimethy1-1,3-diaminopropane. Single-crystal X-ray structures of both compounds have been determined.
