Fuzziness: Came for the View, Stayed for the Same
2013
The first time I came across Fuzzy Sets, my first point of contact with Soft Computing, I was a young and inexperienced student of Computer Science in my hometown University. I had just completed the first semester, and as an aside of an image processing curriculum a loud-spoken, very kinetic lecturer spent a couple of hours introducing us to the mysteries of the idea of degree and Fuzzy arithmetic. The whole thing had a sort of secret sect bent, something like the secret tools that the powers to be don’t want you to know and use – a probably unwitting attitude I have seen many times in the community and that has harmed more than helped, but that on an unexperienced and young student as mys…
Fuzzy fixed points of generalized F2-geraghty type fuzzy mappings and complementary results
2016
The aim of this paper is to introduce generalized F2-Geraghty type fuzzy mappings on a metric space for establishing the existence of fuzzy fixed points of such mappings. As an application of our result, we obtain the existence of common fuzzy fixed point for a generalized F2-Geraghty type fuzzy hybrid pair. These results unify, generalize and complement various known comparable results in the literature. An example and an application to theoretical computer science are presented to support the theory proved herein. Also, to suggest further research on fuzzy mappings, a Feng–Liu type theorem is proved.
A heuristic fuzzy algorithm for assessing and managing tourism sustainability
2019
“Smartness” and “sustainability” are gaining growing attention from both practitioners and policy makers. “Smartness” and “sustainability” assessments are of crucial importance for directing, in a systemic perspective, the decision-making process toward sustainability and smart growth objectives. Sustainability assessment is a major challenge due to the multidisciplinary aspects involved that make the evaluation process complex and hinder the effectiveness of available monitoring tools. To achieve the assessment objective, we introduce an enhanced fuzzy logic-based framework for handling the inherent uncertainty and vagueness of the involved variables: we apply our approach to Italy, and we…
A theory of spatial general equilibrium in a fuzzy economy
1984
Let an economic space be characterized by the existence of a given distribution of locations, i.e. consumers' residential locations and producers' plants. It is equipped with a system of prices. The economy is fuzzy because the economic behaviors of agents are imprecise. In this context, spatial partial equilibria theories are applications of a fuzzy economic calculation model. The aim of the present paper is to study the conditions which must be fulfilled in order that the compatibility of consumers' equilibria and producers' equilibria be verified. Mathematical tools are Butnariu's theorems which extend the Brouwer's and Kakutani's theorems to the cases of fuzzy functions and fuzzy point-…
Selección de personal basada en métodos difusos
2011
Nuestro enfoque …
Optimal slope units partitioning in landslide susceptibility mapping
2020
In landslide susceptibility modeling, the selection of the mapping units is a very relevant topic both in terms of geomorphological adequacy and suitability of the models and final maps. In this paper, a test to integrate pixels and slope units is presented. MARS (Multivariate Adaptive Regression Splines) modeling was applied to assess landslide susceptibility based on a 12 predictors and a 1608 cases database. A pixel-based model was prepared and the scores zoned into 10 different types of slope units, obtained by differently combining two half-basin (HB) and four landform classification (LCL) coverages. The predictive performance of the 10 models were then compared to select the best perf…
Clustering techniques for personal photo album management
2009
In this work we propose a novel approach for the automatic representation of pictures achieving at more effective organization of personal photo albums. Images are analyzed and described in multiple representation spaces, namely, faces, background and time of capture. Faces are automatically detected, rectified and represented projecting the face itself in a common low-dimensional eigenspace. Backgrounds are represented with low-level visual features based on RGB histogram and Gabor filter bank. Faces, time and background information of each image in the collection is automatically organized using a mean-shift clustering technique. Given the particular domain of personal photo libraries, wh…
Quantitative lower bounds to the Euclidean and the Gaussian Cheeger constants
2020
We provide a quantitative lower bound to the Cheeger constant of a set $\Omega$ in both the Euclidean and the Gaussian settings in terms of suitable asymmetry indexes. We provide examples which show that these quantitative estimates are sharp.
2014
Introduction: Many studies examine gene expression data that has been obtained under the influence of multiple factors, such as genetic background, environmental conditions, or exposure to diseases. The interplay of multiple factors may lead to effect modification and confounding. Higher order linear regression models can account for these effects. We present a new methodology for linear model selection and apply it to microarray data of bone marrow-derived macrophages. This experiment investigates the influence of three variable factors: the genetic background of the mice from which the macrophages were obtained, Yersinia enterocolitica infection (two strains, and a mock control),and treat…
