Masteroppgave idrettsvitenskap- Universitetet i Agder 2014 Physical education (PE) in schools should contribute to sustained physical activity participation among students (udir.no). The content and teaching activities in PE classes can be a significant contribution to what students are left with the experiences of the subject. Based on theory and empirical research in within the realm of sport didactics, I have examined how learning activities - and teaching methods in PE can affect students' emotional and behavioral experiences. Moreover, I have examined the role of differential teacher's behavior in the psychological sense with respect to impact on both positive and negative emotional an…

A questionnaire that was used to answer research questions referred to physical activity and sport participation. The same tests and measurements were performed at 13 years (n = 45) and 16 years (n = 34), (i.e. seven and ten years later, respectively). Frikjøreres atferd og egenskaper : en undersøkelse av relasjonen mellom risikotaking, sensation seeking og mental tøffhet på frikjørere

2014

Masteroppgave idrettsvitenskap- Universitetet i Agder 2014 The aim of this study was to determine freeskiers mental toughness, sensation seeking and risk taking behavior and if mental toughness or sensation seeking can predict a risk taking behavior. 37 athletes from The Norway Freeride Cup conducted the questionnaire. A correlation and regression analysis was used to examine the theses. The results showed that freeskiers are mentally tough, sensation seekers and risk takers. Sensation seeking proves to be a predictor for a risk taking behavior. Especially the scale “Boredom Susceptibility” (SS-BS) showed a high correlation to risk taking behavior. Mental toughness could not predict a risk …

Serving of free school lunch to secondary-school pupils – a pilot study with health implications

2010

AbstractObjectiveTo study whether service of a free school lunch has an impact on weight development and food intake among pupils at a lower secondary school, and to assess the association between self-perceived school behaviour and food intake.DesignA controlled intervention study involving service of a free healthy school lunch to 9th grade pupils took place over 4 months, from January to May 2007. Weight and height were measured before and after the intervention. The pupils also completed a short FFQ and a questionnaire concerning self-perceived school behaviour and the classroom environment before and after the intervention. A healthy food score was calculated using the FFQ data.Setting…

Cardiovascular responses to dynamic and static upper-body exercise in a cold environment in coronary artery disease patients

2021

Abstract Purpose Upper-body exercise performed in a cold environment may increase cardiovascular strain, which could be detrimental to patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). This study compared cardiovascular responses of CAD patients during graded upper-body dynamic and static exercise in cold and neutral environments. Methods 20 patients with stable CAD performed 30 min of progressive dynamic (light, moderate, and heavy rating of perceived exertion) and static (10, 15, 20, 25 and 30% of maximal voluntary contraction) upper body exercise in cold (− 15 °C) and neutral (+ 22 °C) environments. Heart rate (HR), blood pressure (BP) and electrocardiographic (ECG) responses were recorded an…

Physical activity levels in adults and elderly from triaxial and uniaxial accelerometry. The Tromsø study

2019

Introduction - Surveillance of physical activity at the population level increases the knowledge on levels and trends of physical activity, which may support public health initiatives to promote physical activity. Physical activity assessed by accelerometry is challenged by varying data processing procedures, which influences the outcome. We aimed to describe the levels and prevalence estimates of physical activity, and to examine how triaxial and uniaxial accelerometry data influences these estimates, in a large population-based cohort of Norwegian adults. Methods - This cross-sectional study included 5918 women and men aged 40–84 years who participated in the seventh wave of the Tromsø St…

Drug resistance is widespread among children who receive long-term antiretroviral treatment at a rural Tanzanian hospital

2010

Published version of an article from the journal: Journal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy. Also available from the publisher: htttp://dx.doi.org/10.1093/jac/dkq234 Objectives: To assess long-term virological efficacy and the emergence of drug resistance in children who receive antiretroviral treatment (ART) in rural Tanzania. Patients and methods: Haydom Lutheran Hospital has provided ART to HIV-infected individuals since 2003. From February through May 2009, a cross-sectional virological efficacy survey was conducted among children (, 15 years) who had completed >= 6 months of first-line non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NNRTI)-based ART. Genotypic resistance was determined in …
