Green synthesis of nanomaterials finds the edge over chemical methods due to its environmental compatibility. Herein, we report a facile and eco-friendly method for the synthesis of palladium (Pd) nanoparticles (NPs) using an aqueous solution of Pulicaria glutinosa, a plant widely found in a large region of Saudi Arabia, as a bioreductant. Pullulan and dextran: uncommon composition dependent Flory-Huggins interaction parameters of their aqueous solutions.

Vapor pressure measurements were performed for aqueous solutions of pullulan ( M w 280 kg/mol) and dextran ( M w 60 and 2100 kg/mol, respectively) at 25, 37.5, and 50 degrees C. The Flory-Huggins interaction parameters obtained from these measurements, plus information on dilute solutions taken from the literature, show that water is a better solvent for pullulan than for dextran. Furthermore, they evince uncommon composition dependencies, including the concurrent appearance of two extrema, a minimum at moderate polymer concentration and a maximum at high polymer concentration. In reversed-phase liquid chromatography (RPLC), basic drugs are positively charged at the usual working pH range and interact with free anionic silanols present in conventional silica-based stationary phases. This translates into stronger retention and tailed and broadened peaks. This problem can be resolved by the addition of reagents to the mobile phase that are adsorbed on the stationary phase, avoiding the access of solutes to silanols. The molar conductance of dilute solutions of HCl in wet (68.5% methanol + 31.5% tetrahydrofurane mixtures at 25°C have been measured. The data were analyzed using the Fuoss-Hsia equation to calculate the infinite dilution molar conductances and association constants. The trend of the limiting conductances in these mixtures as a function of the water content shows, once more, the peculiar minimum due to the anomalous proton conductance mechanism. From these data the limiting molar conductance in the anhydrous binary solvent system was evaluated. The percentage excess proton mobility with respect to potassium ion has also been determined. Chlorination step (C-step), spent bleach liquor from a kraft pulp mill and the product from the chlorination of guaiacol in aqueous solution have been investigated for their content of chlorinated catechols. After separation the samples were derivatized with diazoethane and analysed by glass capillary gas chromatography with an electron capture detector. The external standard mixture of all ethylated chlorocatechols was used in the measurements. The structures of the compounds identified were confirmed by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry. Abstract The flow injection fluorimetric determination of promethazine is carried out by on-line photoderivatization. The PTFE tubing is helically coiled around the lamp. An analytical procedure is proposed by using aqueous solution as carrier stream: the calibration graph is linear over the range 0.05 - 20 ppm. The influence of foreign compounds is studied and the method is applied to promethazine determination in pharmaceutical formulations.

Channel flow at an immobilised liquid|liquid interface

A novel rectangular channel flow electrochemical cell for the study of liquid | liquid interfaces is presented. The organic phase is immobilised by the use of a gelling agent, while the aqueous phase flows past the interface. This creates an asymmetric setup that allows us to establish diagnostic criteria to determine, for example, the direction of the ion transfer. The effects of varying flow rate and sweep rate have been considered both theoretically and experimentally. By comparison with two-dimensional simulations, it is demonstrated that a simple one-dimensional theory can be used to describe the cyclic voltammetry response of the channel flow cell.

Spectrophotometric determination of adrenaline with an oxidative column in a FIA assembly

Abstract A single channel FIA assembly is proposed for the spectrophotometric determination of adrenaline, the aqueous sample solution is directly injected into the carrier stream leading the sample through a manganese dioxide column at 80°C, and on to the spectrophotometer flow-cell. The calibration graph is linear up to 17 ppm of adrenaline. The influence of other substances has been studied and the method has been applied to the determination of adrenaline in a pharmaceutical formulation.
