A new approach to simulate coating thickness in cold spray

2020

Abstract In the process of cold spray on complex components, the coating thickness is an important indicator to monitor and control. Current methods such as destructive tests or direct mechanical measurements can only be performed after spraying. Besides, these methods lead to production shutdown and additional costs . This article presents a novel approach predicting coating thickness for components with complex curved surfaces, especially in the case of shadow effects. Firstly, a three-dimensional geometric model of the coating profile based on Gaussian distribution was developed. In addition, the relative deposition efficiency (RDE) resulting from the different robot kinematic parameters…

Stable layer-building strategy to enhance cold-spray-based additive manufacturing

2020

Abstract Cold spray (CS) has recently become one of the popular additive manufacturing (AM) processes for its advantages: high-forming efficiency, low temperature, and no phase changing of materials. These advantages may make CS able to form large volume objects and possibly directly iterate with material-removing processes to become a hybrid AM process. Current research proposes using a bulk-based volume-forming strategy (e.g. a tessellation-based method) for volume building. Although it can form 3D volumes, the control of the process is difficult and it has limitations in forming complex 3D near-net-shapes with acceptable accuracy. This also conflicts with the basic principle of AM, where…

Intranasal fentanyl versus fentanyl pectin nasal spray for the management of breakthrough cancer pain in doses proportional to basal opioid regimen.

2014

Abstract The aim of this randomized, crossover, comparison study was to assess the analgesic and adverse effects of 2 nasal preparations, intranasal fentanyl (INFS) and fentanyl pectin nasal spray (FPNS), for breakthrough pain, given in doses proportional to opioid basal regimen. Each patient randomly received INFS or FPNS in doses proportional to opioid dosages used for background analgesia for 2 pairs of episodes. For each episode of breakthrough pain, pain intensity and adverse effects intensity were recorded just before starting the INFS or FPNS (T0) and 5 minutes (T5), 10 minutes (T10), and 20 minutes (T20) after the administration of the nasal drugs. Sixty-nine patients were studied. …

Efficacy of a Spray Compound Containing a Pool of Collagen Precursor Synthetic Amino Acids (L-Proline, L-Leucine, L-Lysine and Glycine) Combined with…

2010

Oral mucositis (OM) is a very frequent and potentially severe complication experienced by patients receiving chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy, which often leads to significant morbidity and mortality, and decreased quality of life, and is very costly. Despite its severity and prevalence, there is no standard recognised management today. The aim of this open clinical trial is to evaluate the efficacy and compliance of a new spray compound containing sodium hyaluronate (SH) and a pool of collagen precursor amino acids (AAs) combined with sodium hyaluronate (SH) to manage radio/chemotherapy-induced OM. Twenty-seven consecutive patients with OM were treated according to the manufacturer's inst…

Effect of irrigation of the nose with isotonic salt solution on adult patients with chronic paranasal sinus disease

2001

In a prospective, randomized, controlled, double-blind trial we compared the effectiveness of endonasal irrigations with Ems salt solution to that with sodium chloride solution in the treatment of adult patients with chronic paranasal sinus disease. Subjects (n = 40) were randomly allocated to treatment either with isotonic Ems salt solution or with isotonic sodium chloride solution. The treatment consisted of endonasal irrigation twice daily and additional nasal spray as required. Nasal endoscopy, plain radiography of the paranasal sinuses, olfactometry, anterior rhinomanometry, and a saccharin-clearance test were carried out on days 1 and 7. Patients recorded rating scales of general disc…

Fatal hypersensitivity reaction to an oral spray of flurbiprofen: a case report

2013

Summary What is known and objective Safety of the anti-inflammatory drug flurbiprofen is comparable with that of other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs of the propionic acid class, which are commonly associated with gastrointestinal and renal side effects. Here we report a case of a fatal hypersensitivity reaction to an oral spray of flurbiprofen taken for sore throat. Case summary A 29-year-old man came to the emergency care unit reporting sore throat with an intense burning sensation associated with fever. Pharyngotonsillitis was diagnosed, and local treatment with oral flurbiprofen spray was prescribed. Immediately after using the spray, the patient experienced a severe reaction cha…

Beclomethasone dipropionate hydrofluoroalkane for the treatment of allergic rhinitis

2016

Allergic rhinitis (AR) is a common respiratory disease, and its prevalence is increasing all over the world, both in adults and in children. Patients experience symptoms that may negatively impact on physical, social and psychological well-being. Hence, if left untreated, allergic rhinitis may significantly affect quality of life. Under current guidelines, intranasal corticosteroids are considered the most effective drugs and they are recommended as first-line therapy. Among the several corticosteroid intranasal sprays available, beclomethasone dipropionate is one of the most prescribed. Recently, new intranasal hydrofluoroalkane-propelled formulations with little or no impact on the ozone …

An Alginate/Cyclodextrin Spray Drying Matrix to Improve Shelf Life and Antioxidant Efficiency of a Blood Orange By-Product Extract Rich in Polyphenol…

2017

Alginate and β-cyclodextrin were used to produce easily dosable and spray-dried microsystems of a dried blood orange extract with antidysmetabolic properties, obtained from a by-product fluid extract. The spray-dried applied conditions were able to obtain a concentrate dried extract without the loss of AOA and with TPC and TMA values of 35–40% higher than that of the starting material. They were also effective in producing microparticles with 80–100% of encapsulation efficiency. The 2% sodium alginate was capable of improving the extract shelf life, while the beta-cyclodextrin (1 : 1 molar ratio with dried extract) prolonged the extract antioxidant efficiency by 6 hours. The good inhibition…

Dust, Metals and Metalloids in the Environment: From Air to Hair .

2013

Billions tons of particulate matter, made up of inorganic and organic compounds, are released every year into the atmosphere, from both anthropogenic and natural sources. The latter, which include geogenic material from erosion, agriculture, sea spray and volcanic activity, account for about 97% of the total mass of particles. The contribution of anthropogenic sources, about 3%, is more pronounced in industrialised and also in urban areas, where vehicular traffic is one of the most important sources. When examining the health impact, in addition to mass level and size, two other main characteristics of particulate matter need to be considered: its nature and chemical composition. These para…

In daily clinical routine, experimentally, or when measuring therapeutic success clinically, nasal allergen challenge is fundamental. It is further one of the key diagnostic tools when initiating specific allergen immunotherapy. So far, national recommendations offered guidance on its execution; however, international divergence left many questions unanswered. These differ…
