Active disturbance rejection control of linear induction motor

2017

This paper proposes the theoretical framework and the experimental application of the active disturbance rejection control to linear induction motors. Such a nonlinear control (ADRC) technique can be viewed as a particular kind of input-output linearization control, where the nonlinear transformation of the state is not computed by means of the model, but it is estimated online. Such an approach permits to cope with unmodelling dynamics, as well as uncertainty in the knowledge of the model parameters and exogenous disturbances. The effectiveness of the proposed ADRC control law has been verified both by numerical simulations and experimentally on a suitably developed test setup. Moreover, t…

How representative are referendums? Evidence from 20 years of Swiss referendums

2017

Direct democracy allows citizens to reverse decisions made by legislatures and even initiate new laws which parliaments are unwilling to pass, thereby, as its proponents argue, leading to more representative policies than would have obtained under a purely representative democracy. Yet, turnout in referendums is usually lower than in parliamentary elections and tends to be skewed towards citizens of high socio-economic status. Consequently, critics of direct democracy argue that referendum outcomes may not be representative of the preferences of the population at large. We test this assertion using a compilation of post-referendum surveys encompassing 148 national referendums held in Switze…

Lines of development in social research on disability in Finland between the years 1970–2010

2013

This article reviews the development of social research on disability conducted in Finland during the 40-year period from 1970 until 2010. The main focus is the connection of the research with the socioeconomic development of the country. The review starts from the emergence of a new disability service paradigm during the late 1960s. This new paradigm centred around the concept of rehabilitation, and had its roots in the birth of a postmodern welfare state during the same decade. The second shift began during the 1980s and was characterized by the precedence of human rights issues. Both of these changes paralleled international developments, but equally had their roots in the Finnish post-w…

Wpływ traktatu lizbońskiego na regulacje imigracyjne UE ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem zasady solidarności i sprawiedliwego podziału odpowiedzialności…

2018

The Influence of the Treaty of Lisbon on the EU Immigration Regulations with Particular Attention to the Principle of Solidarity and Fair Sharing of Responsibility Between Member StatesAnalysis of the influence of the Treaty of Lisbon on the EU immigration regulations with particular attention to the principle of solidarity and fair sharing of responsibility between Member States indicates that the Treaty of Lisbon extensively reformed these regulations. Its premise and mechanisms should be assessed as justified. However, they give a lot of leeway for interpretation and need to be supplementedwith EU secondary law. Unfortunately, states are primarily driven by their interest when applying t…

Effects of states governments restrictions related on Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) on states economy - comparison of Baltic States, Sweden, and Bel…

2021

In order to limit the spread of COVID-19, states have gradually implemented restrictions mandating school and kindergarten closures, postponing academic semesters and prohibiting visits to nursing homes to protect the elderly, borders were closed, states prohibited physical contact with more than one person from outside one's household, and other restrictions. This paper examines the economic effects of policies to contain Covid-19 in Baltic States by comparing they with experience of Sweden and Belarus where approach was less stringent and based more on social responsibility than legal obligations compared to the other European states

Odpowiedzialność Skarbu Państwa wobec akcjonariuszy (udziałowców) upadłego za szkodę wyrządzoną przez Sąd Upadłościowy poprzez niesłuszne orzeczenie …

2021

Niniejsze opracowanie odnosi się do zagadnień związanych z odpowiedzialnością odszkodowawczą Skarbu Państwa w stosunku do udziałowców dłużnika z tytułu błędnego orzeczenia o opcji upadłości likwidacyjnej zamiast o opcji restrukturyzacji. W artykule poddano analizie ustawowe kryter…

Sleepless in Carver Country: Insomnia and Existential Crisis in Raymond Carver’s Short Fiction

2020

In Raymond Carver’s short fiction, the night is n…

Towards CCTV-aware Routing and Navigation for Privacy, Anonymity, and Safety - Feasibility Study in Jyväskylä

2021

AbstractIn order to withstand the ever-increasing invasion of privacy by CCTV cameras and technologies, on par CCTV-aware solutions must exist that provide privacy, safety, and cybersecurity features. We argue that a first important step towards such CCTV-aware solutions must be a mapping system (e.g., Google Maps, OpenStreetMap) that provides both privacy and safety routing and navigation options. Unfortunately, to the best of our knowledge, there are no mapping nor navigation systems that support CCTV-privacy and CCTV-safety routing options. At the same time, in order to move the privacy vs. safety debate related to CCTV surveillance cameras from purely subjective to data-driven and evide…

Methods: A survey was developed by select members of the International Economics Committee of the American College of Radiology on quality programs and was distributed to committee members. Members responded on behalf of their country. The 51-question survey asked about 12 different quality initiatives which were grouped into 4 themes: departments, users, equipment, and outcomes. Respondents reported whether a designated type of quality initiative was used in their country and answered subsequent questions further characterizing it. Results: The re…

Obraz okoliczności i konsekwencji przyjęcia chrześcijaństwa dla państwa Mieszka I przedstawiony we współczesnych szkolnych podręcznikach historii

2016

Issues concerning the baptism of the Polish state in 966 year has a wealthy literature. In this context, it is not surprising that the event of this magnitude takes pride of place in the pages of school textbooks. Textbooks are next to the teacher, despite huge progress in access to information seen in the last several years, the primary source of student, acąuired during school education, historical knowledge. Starting from this assumption, the author of the article decided to have a look at how the pages of the most popular contemporary textbooks for teaching history, presents the circumstances and conseąuences of the adoption of Christianity by Mieszko I in 966. The analysis work shows t…
