Experimental and numerical assessment of subsurface plastic deformation induced by OFHC copper machining

2015

Strain distributions in the machined surface and subsurface of OFHC copper workpieces were determined experimentally and through numerical simulations. An experimental setup, comprising a double frame camera and a pulsed laser, was developed to measure the displacement fields using the digital image correlation (DIC) technique; strain distributions were then calculated. A numerical orthogonal cutting model was also developed and applied in order to predict such distributions. Comparison between simulated and measured results enabled an understanding of the fundamental mechanisms of plastic deformation of the machined surface of OFHC copper.; International audience; Strain distributions in t…

La singularité de O’Grady

2006

Let M 2 v M_{2v} be the moduli space of semistable sheaves with Mukai vector 2 v 2v on an abelian or K 3 K3 surface where v v is primitive such that ⟨ v , v ⟩ = 2 \langle v,v \rangle =2 . We show that the blow-up of the reduced singular locus of M 2 v M_{2v} provides a symplectic resolution of singularities. This provides a direct description of O’Grady’s resolutions of M K 3 ( 2 , 0 , 4 ) M_{K3}(2,0,4) and M A b ( 2 , 0 , 2 ) M_{Ab}(2,0,2) .

Tangential behavior of functions and conical densities of Hausdorff measures.

2005

We construct a $C^1$-function $f\colon [0,1]\to \mathbb{R}$ such that for almost all $x\in(0,1)$, there is $r>0$ for which $f(y)>f(x)+f'(x)(y-x)$ when $y\in(x,x+r)$ and $f(y)< f(x)+f'(x)(y-x)$ when $y\in(x-r,x)$. The existence of such functions is related to a problem concerning conical density properties of Hausdorff measures on $\mathbb{R}^n$. We also discuss the tangential behavior of typical $C^1$-functions, using an improvement of Jarnik's theorem on essential derived numbers

On the numerical evaluation of algebro-geometric solutions to integrable equations

2011

Physically meaningful periodic solutions to certain integrable partial differential equations are given in terms of multi-dimensional theta functions associated to real Riemann surfaces. Typical analytical problems in the numerical evaluation of these solutions are studied. In the case of hyperelliptic surfaces efficient algorithms exist even for almost degenerate surfaces. This allows the numerical study of solitonic limits. For general real Riemann surfaces, the choice of a homology basis adapted to the anti-holomorphic involution is important for a convenient formulation of the solutions and smoothness conditions. Since existing algorithms for algebraic curves produce a homology basis no…

Algebraic time-reversal operation

1999

International audience; We analyze the implementation of the time-reversal (TR) transformation in the algebraic approach to tetrahedral local molecules through the chain of groups U(5) U(4) K(4) = A(4) ^ S(4) S(4) Td. We determine the general form of the TR operation using a purely algebraic realization, based exclusively on the requirement that the irreducible representations must not be changed under the time inversion symmetry. As a result we can determine the TR behavior of purely algebraic operators.

Self-affine sets in analytic curves and algebraic surfaces

2018

We characterize analytic curves that contain non-trivial self-affine sets. We also prove that compact algebraic surfaces do not contain non-trivial self-affine sets. peerReviewed

On the topology of surfaces with the generalised simple lift property.

2020

In this paper, we study the geometry of surfaces with the generalised simple lift property. This work generalises previous results by Bernstein and Tinaglia, and it is motivated by the fact that leaves of a minimal lamination obtained as a limit of a sequence of properly embedded minimal disks satisfy the generalised simple lift property.
