This case‐study investigates the impact of personal school experience and initial teacher education on the work of six beginning language teachers. Insights into the thinking and acting of the subjects are gained through an interpretative analysis of their interviews. The findings indicate that one’s own school experience has an important role in constructing practical knowledge during the first years of teaching. Part of this experience is unconscious and difficult to express in words; nevertheless, it has an impact on the actions of the beginning language teacher. [EN] Purpose: The objective is to analyse research in Operations Management (OM) teaching published in high impact journals in the area in order to examine trends and set future challenges. Design/methodology/approach: A bibliometric study was carried out of 45 of the main JCR OM and Management journals for the 1995-2010 period. The 129 articles identified on research in OM teaching were analysed. Findings: There is a dearth of articles on teaching in the main OM and Management journals. Sixty-two point two percent of the journals analysed have not published any and the remainder (17) have devoted only 0.4% of all their publications to this subject area. El objetivo de este estudio fue interpretar las perspectivas del profesorado y de los estudiantes universitarios acerca de la competencia “aprender a aprender”. Llevamos a cabo grupos de discusión con ambos colectivos y nos apoyamos en el Modelo GIPU-EA, ya que era lo suficientemente operativo e integrador como para sistematizar las codificaciones. Analizamos el enraizamiento y la densidad, y calculamos un puntaje de coherencia intradimensional. Los resultados mostraron dos perfiles diferentes en la percepción de la competencia.
