Remembrance of the historian Vicent Llombart

2017

This remembrance shows how the initial training that Vicent Llombart received at the Seminar on the History of Economic Thought at the University of Valencia was crucial, although not the only element, to understanding a prominent academic career with so relevant contributions. His determined purpose…

Occupational Safety and Health

2012

Abstract Occupational health and safety reflects the effect of the work environment on employees, groups and work units in organizations, and organizations as a whole. This chapter provides an overview of the research on workplace safety and specifically discusses safety training, regulatory focus, safety climate, leadership, and job design as they relate to safety. Additionally, the literature on occupational health, drawing heavily on the occupational stress literature, discusses the employee-employer relationship from a psychological contract perspective, including climate for sexual harassment, collective burnout and its contagion, recovery, and organizational wellness programs. 5 Effects Of Low-intensity Concentric Combined With Blood Flow Restriction On Achilles Tendon

2014

Introduction Weight training is a useful tool in order to achieve muscular hypertrophy. However, the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) recommends intensities of 70% of one repetition maximum (1-RM). Those intensities may not be suitable for everyone because of the high mechanical stresses placed upon the joints [Loenneke, 2012]. Nowadays, it is common to combine low-intensity exercise (20–30% 1-RM) with blood flow restriction (BFR) because of the beneficial effects in increased muscular strength, hypertrophy, localised endurance and cardiorespiratory endurance [Pope, 2013]. Despite there is not many papers about the beneficial of this training, it is know that the tendon suffers so…

Attitudes of elementary school teachers towards inclusive education in Ecuador

2020

Specific transfer effects following variable priority dual-task training in older adults

2016

International audience; Purpose: Past divided attention training studies in older adults have suggested that variable priority training (VPT) tends to show larger improvement than fixed priority training (FPT). However, it remains unclear whether VPT leads to larger transfer effects. Methods: In this study, eighty-three older adults aged between 55 and 65 received five 1-hour sessions of VPT, FPT or of an active placebo. VPT and FPT subjects trained on a complex dual-task condition with variable stimulus timings in order to promote more flexible and self-guided strategies with regard to attentional priority devoted to the concurrent tasks. Real-time individualized feedback was provided to e…

Resistance Training Acutely Impairs Agility and Spike-Specific Performance Measures in Collegiate Female Volleyball Players Returning from the Off-Se…

2020

This study examined the acute effects of resistance training (RT) on volleyball-specific performance. Sixteen female volleyball players undertook their initial, pre-season RT bout. Countermovement jump (CMJ), delayed onset of muscle soreness (DOMS), and sport-specific performances (i.e., run-up jump, agility, and spiking speed and accuracy) were measured before, 24 (T24), and 48 (T48) hours after RT. A significant increase in DOMS was observed at T24 and T48 (~207.6% &plusmn

Creatine kinase (CK) is a marker for muscle cell damage with limited potential as marker for training load in strength training. Recent exercise studies identified cell free DNA (cfDNA) as a marker for aseptic inflammation and cell damage. Here we overserved in a pilot study the acute effects during strength exercise and chronic effects of regular strength training on cfDNA concentrations over a period of four weeks in three training groups applying conservation training (CT) at 60% of the 1 repetition maximum, high intensity-low repetition training (HT) at 90% of the 1 repetition maximum and differential training (DT) at 60% of the 1 repetition maximum. EDTA-plasma samples were collected b…

An Investigation of the Roles of Group Identification, Perceived Ability, and Evaluative Conditions in Stereotype Threat Experiences

2019

The Multi-Threat Framework distinguishes six qualitatively distinct stereotype threats. Up to now, few studies have been performed to identify the situational and individual determinants of different stereotype threat experiences. This study investigates the role of group identification, perceived ability, and evaluative conditions (private/public) in six stereotype threat experiences for 261 French Physical Education Students. The results show that the expression level of the different stereotype threats does not vary according to evaluative conditions. In contrast, group identification affects all the forms of stereotype threats, and for three forms of stereotype threats, this effect is …

Training Cognitive Functions Using Mobile Apps in Breast Cancer Patients: Systematic Review

2019

Background: Breast cancer is an invalidating disease and its treatment can bring serious side effects that have a physical and psychological impact. Specifically, cancer treatment generally has a strong impact on cognitive function. In recent years, new technologies and eHealth have had a growing influence on health care and innovative mobile apps can be useful tools to deliver cognitive exercise in the patient’s home. Objective: This systematic review gives an overview of the state-of-the-art mobile apps aimed at training cognitive functions to better understand whether these apps could be useful tools to counteract cognitive impairment in breast cancer patients. Methods: We searched in a …

Inter-individual variation in response to resistance training in cardiometabolic health indicators.

2020

Resistance training (RT) may improve metabolic health; however, the extent of its effectiveness is constantly evaluated to assess improvements in the group means, thus obscuring the heterogeneous individual effects. This study investigated inter-individual variation in response to RT as reflected in metabolic health indicators and how age, sex, nutrition, and pre-training phenotypes are associated with such variabilities. Methods Previously collected data of men and women (39-73 years, 135 trained, 73 non-trained controls) were pooled for analysis. Measurements were taken twice before training to estimate individual day-to-day variations and measurement errors (n = 208). The individual resp…
