Increased prolyl 4-hydroxylase activity in the myocardium of endurance-trained mice.

Endurance training over 3, 10 or 20 days increased the activity of prolyl 4-hydroxylase (PH) in the left ventricle of mice. No increase was observed in the weight of the left ventricle, in galactosylhydroxylysyl glucosyltransferase activity or in hydroxyproline concentration. The increase in PH suggests that the synthesis of collagen increases during physiological adaptation of the heart to endurance exercise without changes in the ventricle weight or its total collagen content.

Session-RPE for quantifying load of different youth taekwondo training sessions.

BACKGROUND: The session rating of perceived exertion (session-RPE) proved to be a valuable method to quantify the internal training load (ITL) in taekwondo. However, no study validated this method in youth taekwondo athletes performing different training sessions. Thus this study aimed at evaluating the reliability of the session-RPE to monitor the ITL of prepubescent taekwondo athletes during pre-competitive (PC) and competitive (C) training sessions. Endurance exercise induces notable acute hormonal responses on the gonadal and adrenal hormones. The purpose of this study was to assess the changes in salivary testosterone (Ts), salivary cortisol (Cs) and T/C ratio during long-distance triathlon. Ten well-trained male triathletes participated in the study and were assessed for hormonal changes at four time-points (pre-competition, post-swimming, post-cycling, and post-running phases). However, no scientific study has examined the influence of the time of day when strength training is performed on hormonal adaptations. It has been proposed that the maintenance of acute hormonal responses reveal an efficacy of a training stimulus to evoke ongoing increases in strength and muscle mass. We previously observed that maximum strength continued to improve throughout a 10‐week period in an accentuated eccentric loading group (AEL) but not a traditional isoinertial loading (ISO) group.
