Exploring Skopos in the Dutch Dubbed Versions of the Songs of Disney's Frozen

An important part in dubbing an animated musical film – as in any translation – is setting a purpose (perhaps subconsciously) for that particular project and establishing a set of priorities to achieve that purpose. This article investigates the purpose, or skopos, of the dubbing process of the Dutch songs from the 2013 Disney film Frozen, and analyses the effect of those skopi on the songs. This analysis uses the triangle of aspects, a comprehensive model to compare a dubbed version of a song to the original on several important aspects, such as rhythm, lip synchrony, and sense. Tässä käännösteoreettisessa opinnäytetyössä tutkitaan rugbyn sääntöjen kääntämisessä ilmeneviä käännösongelmia sekä tapoja ratkaista niitä. Työ on kommentoitu käännös englanninkielisten rugbysääntöjen otteista, ja tutkimusaineistona on 9 englanninkielistä rugbysääntöä. Työssä analysoitiin ensin lähdetekstin urheilukieli, lakikieleen viittaavat ilmaukset sekä lähdetekstin tarkoitus eli skopos. L2-L1 Translation Priming Effects in a Lexical Decision Task: Evidence From Low Proficient Korean-English Bilinguals

One of the key issues in bilingual lexical representation is whether L1 processing is facilitated by L2 words. In this study, we conducted two experiments using the masked priming paradigm to examine how L2-L1 translation priming effects emerge when unbalanced, low proficiency, Korean-English bilinguals performed a lexical decision task. In Experiment 1, we used a 150 ms SOA (50 ms prime duration followed by a blank interval of 100 ms) and found a significant L2-L1 translation priming effect. In contrast, in Experiment 2, we used a 60 ms SOA (50 ms prime duration followed by a blank interval of 10 ms) and found a null effect of L2-L1 translation priming. La primera, publicada l’any 1909, havia estat feta el 1905 per a una producció d’Adrià Gual; la segona va aparèixer el 1921 en una col·lecció d’obres literàries en traducció que dirigia Carner mateix, la Biblioteca Literària. Les glosses de Guillem Nicolau a la seva traducció de les 'Heroides' d'Ovidi (1390) : una proposta d'identificació

According to a letter written in 1390, Guillem Nicolau attached a full commentary to his Catalan translation of Ovid’s Heroides. Although these glosses have not survived in any of the extant manuscripts of this translation, they have been preserved in a fifteenth-century manuscript containing an anonymous Castilian version of the Catalan text. In this article, the linguistic- and literary-based identification of these Castilian glosses with those written by Nicolau leads to a further examination of the relationship of the Catalan Heroides to the Latin commentary tradition.
