Pique-niquer in Paris

2015

An old tradition renews the relationship existing between Paris and her inhabitants: the social and public use…

WhoSNext: Recommending Twitter Users to Follow Using a Spreading Activation Network Based Approach

2020

The huge number of modern social network users has made the web a fertile ground for the growth and development of a plethora of recommender systems. To date, recommending a new user profile X to a given user U that could be interested in creating a relationship with X has been tackled using techniques based on content analysis, existing friendship relationships and other pieces of information coming from different social networks or websites. In this paper we propose a recommending architecture - called WhoSNext (WSN) - tested on Twitter and which aim is promoting the creation of new relationships among users. As recent researches show, this is an interesting recommendation problem: for a …

Darbs sastāv no četrām nodaļām. Pirmajā nodaļa tiek analizēta SIA “Premier Restaurants Latvia”, uzņēmuma biznesa procesi un lietotnes ietekme uz tiem. Otrajā nodaļā tiek raksturota esošā mobilā lietotne un analizēti lietotnes statistiskie dati. Trešajā nodaļā tiek analizēta cilvēku aptauja par “McDonald’s” lietotnes uzlabošanas iespējam. Ceturtajā nodaļā tiek izvirzīti priekšlikumi “McDonald’s” mobilās lietotnes uzlabošanā. Bakala…

New Technologies and Purchase Behaviour. An Analysis of the Determinant Variables in M-Shopping.

2009

Despite of the growing importance of mobile shopping in a lot of countries, there is still a lack of research work in this field. This paper aims to make an approximation of the M-shopper profile and identify the variables influencing purchase behaviour. Findings obtained from a representative sample of 2,343 Spanish Internet users show that the M-shopping decision can be predicted according to consumer age and experience as Internet user and shopper.

Burden of HIV and hepatitis C co-infection: the changing epidemiology of hepatitis C in HIV-infected patients in France.

2015

Équipe UB/CHU (EA) Pôle MERS CT3 Hors Enjeu; International audience; Background & AimsTo better evaluate the HIV-HCV co-infection burden in the context of new effective HCV treatment. MethodsWe reviewed all the epidemiological data available on HCV-related disease in HIV-infected patients in France. Sources of data have been selected using the following criteria: (i) prospective cohorts or cross-sectional surveys; (ii) conducted at a national level; (iii) in the HIV-infected population; (iv) able to identify HCV co-infection and chronic active hepatitis C (HCV RNA positive); and (v) conducted during the period 2003-2012. ResultsThe overall prevalence of HIV-HCV co-infection has decreased fr…

PV-Alert: Fog Computing based Architecture for Safeguarding Vulnerable Road Users

2018

High volumes of pedestrians, cyclists and other vulnerable road users (VRUs) have much higher casualty rates per mile; not surprising given their lack of protection from an accident. In order to alleviate the problem, sensing capabilities of smartphones can be used to detect, warn and safeguard these road users. In this research we propose an infrastructure-less fog-based architecture named PV-Alert (Pedestrian-Vehicle Alert) where fog nodes process delay sensitive data obtained from smartphones for alerting pedestrians and drivers before sending the data to the cloud for further analysis. Fog computing is considered in developing the architecture since it is an emerging paradigm that has p…

Practices and Knowledge: Philosophy of Biomedicine, Governance and Citizen Participation

2018

The present chapter addresses the emergence of new forms of governance and citizen participation in the context of certain biotechnologies. On the basis of three case studies, we have mapped different models of public participation in health issues (especially health activism and Internet users, though not exclusively): identifying and analyzing actors, their mutual relationships (mainly those between "patients"/activists groups and the biomedical community), strategies and forms of participation, the exchange and circulation of "expert/lay" knowledge (and the role of the Internet in these processes), and the different activities and forms of knowledge production by "lay" citizen groups (or…

Key Drivers of Internet Banking Adoption

2008

The objective of this chapter is to provide students and managers with a holistic view into the different factors that influence online banking adoption and to use the study’s findings to develop strategies for managers on how to maximize the rate of Internet banking adoption. Research done with a sample size of 450 Spanish Internet users, has highlighted that Internet banking adoption is more likely in young, highly educated and high-income consumers. Internet affinity, online use experience and some perceived benefits are also key drivers of online financial services pur chase decision-making. Perceived financial, social and psychological risk negatively influences the use of online-banki…

Computer Vision Interaction for People with Severe Movement Restrictions

2006

In this paper we present the starting point of research in applying humancomputer interaction (HCI) techniques to help people with cerebral palsy to use computers via vision-based interaction. Our work includes the development and improvement of visionbased assistive technology, which was tested in experiments with cerebral palsy users. A brief review of current assistive technologies for severely physically impaired people and an explanation of the developed applications of such technologies are also presented. The final part of the paper describes the experimentation goals, process, and preliminary results. Future work directions are also indicated.
