Direct true lumen cannulation in type A acute aortic dissection: A review of an 11 years’ experience
2020
ObjectivesDirect true lumen cannulation (DTLC) of the aorta is an alternative cardiopulmonary bypass cannulation technique in the context of type A acute aortic dissection (A-AAD). DTLC has been reported to be effective in restoring adequate perfusion to jeopardized organs. This study reports and compares operative outcomes with DTLC or alternative cannulation techniques in a large cohort of patients with A-AAD.MethodsAll patients who underwent surgery for A-AAD between January 2006 and January 2017 in Mainz university hospital were reviewed. The choice of cannulation technique was left to the operating surgeon, however DTLC was our preference in patients who were in state of shock or showe…
Clinical relevance of myocardial bridging detected by coronary CT angiography in patients with atypical chest pain

Functional and Prognostic Implications of the Main Pulmonary ArteryDiameter to Aorta Diameter Ratio from Chest Computed Tomography inKorean COPD Pati…
2016
Background The ratio of the diameter of the main pulmonary artery (mPA) to the diameter of the aorta (Ao) on chest computed tomography is associated with diverse clinical conditions. Herein, we determined the functional and prognostic implications of the mPA/Ao ratio in Korean chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients. Methods The study population comprised 226 chronic obstructive pulmonary disease patients from the Korean Obstructive Lung Disease cohort who underwent chest computed tomography. We analyzed the relationships between the clinical characteristics, including pulmonary function, echocardiography findings, St. George's Respiratory Questionnaire, 6-minute walking (6MW)…
Automatic or manual arterial path for the ankle-brachial differences pulse wave velocity
2018
Este artículo se encuentra disponible en la página web de la revista en la siguiente URL: https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0206434 An automated method for measuring arterial path length with devices that determine pulse wave velocity (PWV) in peripheral arteries is frequently applied. We aimed to compare arterial path length measurements based on mathematical height-based formulas with those measured manually and to assess whether the ankle-brachial difference (abD-PWV) measured with the VOPITB device is comparable to that obtained by manual measurements. In 245 patients, a metric measuring tape was used to determine the arterial path length from the suprast…
Influence of increasing convolution kernel filtering on plaque imaging with multislice CT using an ex-vivo model of coronary angiography
2005
PURPOSE: To assess the variability in attenuation of coronary plaques with multislice CT-angiography (MSCT-CA) in an ex-vivo model with varying convolution kernels. MATERIALS AND METHODS: MSCT-CA (Sensation 16, Siemens) was performed in three ex-vivo left coronary arteries after instillation of contrast material solution (Iomeprol 400 mgI/ml, dilution: 1/80). The specimens were placed in oil to simulate epicardial fat. Scan parameters: slices 16/0.75 mm, rotation time 375 ms, feed/rotation 3.0 mm, mAs 500, slice thickness 1 mm, and FOV 50 mm. Datasets were reconstructed using 4 different kernels (B30f-smooth, B36f-medium smooth, B46f-medium, and B60f-sharp). Each scan was scored for the pre…
RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THEOPHYLLINE UPTAKE AND INOTROPIC EFFECT IN THE GUINEA-PIG HEART
1974
1 The time course of the positive inotropic effect of theophylline was compared with the time course of the uptake and release of [(3)H]-theophylline in guinea-pig isolated, electrically driven hearts perfused by the Langendorff method.2 Formation of theophylline metabolites could not be detected under the experimental conditions used.3 Theophylline entered myocardial tissue very rapidly in two different phases. The first process (half-time 21 s) amounted to 93% and the second (half-time 5 min 50 s) to 7% of the total uptake. The development of the positive inotropic effect of theophylline was about four times faster than even the rapid component of the uptake of the drug into the myocardiu…
Contribution of nitric oxide synthase isoforms to cholinergic vasodilation in murine retinal arterioles.
2013
Abstract Nitric oxide synthases (NOSs) are critically involved in regulation of ocular perfusion. However, the contribution of the individual NOS isoforms to vascular responses is unknown in the retina. Because some previous findings suggested an involvement of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) in the regulation of retinal vascular tone, a major goal of the present study was to examine the hypothesis that iNOS is involved in mediating cholinergic vasodilation responses of murine retinal arterioles. Another subject of this study was to test the contribution of the other two NOS isoforms, neuronal (nNOS) and endothelial NOS (eNOS), to cholinergic retinal arteriole responses. Expression o…
Intussusceptive Remodeling of Vascular Branch Angles in Chemically-Induced Murine Colitis
2013
Intussusceptive angiogenesis is a developmental process linked to both blood vessel replication and remodeling in development. To investigate the prediction that the process of intussusceptive angiogenesis is associated with vessel angle remodeling in adult mice, we systematically evaluated corrosion casts of the mucosal plexus in mice with trinitrobenzesulphonic acid (TNBS)-induced and dextran sodium sulfate (DSS)-induced colitis. The mice demonstrated a significant decrease in vessel angles in both TNBS-induced and DSS-induced colitis within 4 weeks of the onset of colitis (p<.001). Corrosion casts 28–30 days after DSS treatment were studied for a variety of detailed morphometric changes.…
Upregulation of antibody response to heat shock proteins and tissue antigens in an ocular ischemia model.
2011
PURPOSE. The aim of this study was to characterize the serum antibody reactivities occurring after ocular ischemia reperfusion. The time course of serum antibody responses was examined. METHODS. Wistar rats were exposed to transient ocular ischemia by elevating intraocular pressure to 130 mm Hg for 60 minutes. Axonal damage was evaluated on optic-nerve sections 2 and 4 weeks later. Blood samples collected before and several times after ischemia were used for antibody detection via customized protein microarrays. Different tissue antigens, including heat shock proteins (HSPs) and crystallins, were selected based on previous identification of antibody reactivities in studies on ischemic event…
Local skin necroses after intramuscular injection -Experimental animal studies-.
1977
The pathogenesis of local skin necroses after intramuscular injection of various drugs such as phenylbutazone (Embolia cutis medicamentosa, Nicolau's syndrome) is not clear. In an attempt to simulate this clinical feature experiments were performed on the rabbit ear lobe. A 20% phenylbutazone solution was injected paraarterial, intraarterial and paraarterial after perforation of the vessel. The drug produced a violent inflammation with all kinds of application. The local inflammation induced by paraarterial injection resulted in a fine scarring. Both other kinds of application produced necroses or even perforations. The histological examinations in these cases revealed massive destructions …
