Ontological levels in the knowledge management field

2013

The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between knowledge and reality in the field of management, highlighting the importance of ontological support in the formation of knowledge. The empirical study establishes those ontological levels in large Spanish firms. The article underlines the importance of ontological support and of practice carried out in forming knowledge, and reviews different approaches. The empirical study identifies, via an exploratory factor analysis, the ontological supports of knowledge in large Spanish firms, going on to apply a confirmatory factor analysis that shows the fit of the factors obtained from the sample. The discussion carried out suggests t…

Ontology Views for Ontology Change Management

2014

International audience; In the literature, ontology change management systems (OCMS) are direct implementation of the concept of “change management” stated by reference (Klein, 2004). Ontology change management combines ontol- ogy evolution and versioning features to manage ontol- ogy changes and their impacts. Since 2007, many works have combined ontology evolution and versioning into ontology change management systems (OCMS). The evolution subject has been massively studied in these works. They especially addressed the consistence issue for the application of changes on the ontology. These proposals constituted a consequent background for ontology change management but they did not take i…

Optimal design of incoherent tunable-frequency structured illumination microscope scheme

2018

Structured illumination microscopy (SIM) improves resolution and optical sectioning capability compared to conventional widefield techniques. The main idea of this method is the illumination of the sample with a structured pattern of fixed spatial modulation frequency. Previously, a Fresnel biprism has been implemented in a structured illumination (SI) device providing tunable-frequency sinusoidal patterns. However, the use of this SI system introduces a tradeoff between the visibility and field of view of the illumination fringes. In this contribution, we analyze theoretically this tradeoff and propose the optimal design for the Fresnel biprism-based SIM system.

A generalized model of human body radiative heat exchanges for optimal design of indoor thermal comfort conditions

2018

Abstract Human thermal sensation depends heavily on radiative exchanges between the human body and the surrounding environment. Because these exchanges play a crucial role in the thermal balance of the human body, about 35% of the process, human thermal sensation should draw the attention of planners when designing both indoor environments and equipment. The present study aims to contribute to this field by proposing a procedure for delineating the optimal comfort conditions for occupants in most of the articulate and realistic configurations of actual indoor environments. Specifically, this procedure enables accurate assessment of the radiant field surrounding a subject in a given indoor r…

How to create international business competences and their impact on firm performance

2014

[EN] This work aims to analyse the effect of the holistic view, continuous learning and information technology infrastructure on the creation of international business competences. The study also investigates whether the creation of this type of competence significantly affects firm performance using the structural equation modelling method of hypothesis testing. A survey of 257 companies from the biotechnology and telecommunications industries verifies the mediating role of international business competences. These findings suggest that managers should emphasise the creation of a holistic view, promote continuous learning and improve the information technology infrastructure in order to de…

Explaining knowledge intensive firms’ performance through internal factors: evidence from an IT consulting firm

2022

Our research contributes to knowledge-intensive firms research streams. We propose an explanation of their performance based on organizational design theory and the resource-based view. Through a case study on an IT consulting firm in France, we examined the impact of a coherent organizational architecture and a cognitive asset on the performance of the firm. The results show a complementarity between a coherent organizational design and a meticulously formed and maintained human resources asset to explain the performance of an IT consulting firm.

Asymmetric modeling of organizational innovation

2015

[EN] This study revisits the theory, data, and analysis in Hervas-Oliver and Sempere-Ripoll (2014) and applies fuzzyset qualitative comparative analysis (fs/QCA) to organizational innovation effects and the influence on them of technological innovations. The influence of technological innovations (product and process) on organizational innovation and its effects is an inconclusive debate. Using fuzzy set comparative qualitative analysis (fs/QCA) on Hervas-Oliver and Sempere-Ripoll’s (2014) 9,369 organizational innovators, the present study offers more complex and nuanced antecedent conditions relating to organizational innovation beyond Hervas-Oliver and Sempere-Ripoll (2014) analysis based…

Target Classification by mmWave FMCW Radars Using Machine Learning on Range-Angle Images

2021

In this paper, we present a novel multiclass-target classification method for mmWave frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) radar operating in the frequency range of 77 - 81 GHz, based on custom range-angle heatmaps and machine learning tools. The elevation field of view (FoV) is increased by orienting the Radar antennas in elevation. In this orientation, the radar focuses the beam in elevation to improve the elevation FoV. The azimuth FoV is improved by mechanically rotating the Radar horizontally, which has antenna elements oriented in the elevation direction. The data from the Radar measurements obtained by mechanical rotation of the Radar in Azimuth are used to generate a range-angl…

The ins and outs of osteopontin.

2015

The continuous remodeling of progressing tumors demands non-physiologic production of extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins. Among them, osteopontin (OPN) has been largely involved in tumor progression and metastasis. We have recently discovered a new mechanism for OPN in the metastatic spread of mammary carcinoma providing local immunosuppression at the seeding site.
