: Calmodulin is known to bind to various amphipathic helical peptide sequences, and the calmodulin–peptide binding surface has been shown to be remarkably tolerant sterically. d-Amino acid peptides, therefore, represent potential non-hydrolysable intracellular antagonists of calmodulin. In the present study, synthetic combinatorial libraries have been used to develop novel d-amino acid hexapeptide antagonists to calmodulin-regulated phosphodiesterase activity. In vivo peptide-phage display is an unbiased technique for mapping of the vascular diversity and identification of homing peptides. This chapter is intended to serve as a structured practical guide to execute in vivo T7 phage biopanning and data analysis experiments. We discuss experimental designs and protocols with emphasis on application of high-throughput sequencing-based technologies for streamlined in vivo biopanning and validation of homing peptides.

Abstract The individual cytotoxicity of cadmium chloride, iron sulphate and chromium nitrate has been investigated by using the freshwater ciliate Tetrahymena pyriformis. The metabolic enzymes and antioxidant defense biomarkers were assessed. The results obtained reveal that their metal salts have perturbed the physiology and morphology of T. pyriformis. Also, the biomarkers assessed were sensitive to the presence of metal salts and this sensitivity was metal salt and dose dependant. The relevance of selenium supplementation on GPx-1 in coronary artery disease (CAD) needs to be established. Rats were fed for 8 weeks a diet containing either Baobab seed oil (FBO) rich in cyclopropenoid fatty acids (CPFA) or heated oil (HBO) devoid of CPFA. In FBO rats, compared to controls (CO), the monounsaturated fatty acid content of adipose tissue lipids, liver triacylglycerols, liver and adrenal cholesteryl esters and liver, kidney, adrenal phospholipids were highly decreased to the benefit of saturated fatty acid content. In cholesteryl esters and phospholipids, the arachidonic acid (20:4 n-6) content was markedly decreased, especially in adrenals. Salt and fat contents influence the microstructure of model cheeses, chewing/swallowing andin vivoaroma release

The effects of the lipid/protein ratio (20/28, 24/24, 28/20) and salt content of model cheeses were investigated simultaneously with respect to chewing behaviour, swallowing events and in vivo aroma release. Chewing parameters were measured by electromyography. Swallowing events were recorded manually. In vivo aroma release was investigated using nose-space on-line atmospheric pressure chemical ionisation-mass spectrometry. The values for chewing activity and time before swallowing were higher with lower lipid/protein ratios and lower salt contents, due to the greater mechanical resistance of the model cheeses. Comparison of the Biosynthesis of Cellulose in vitro and in vivo in Cotton Bolls

THE work of Hassid et al.1–3 on the cell-free synthesis of cellulose with an enzyme system isolated from mung bean seedlings and young cotton bolls has shown that the enzyme is apparently unable to distinguish guanosine diphosphate-D-glucose from guanosine diphosphate-D-mannose. Moreover, there was a notable decrease in the amount of the synthesized cellulose using enzymes from cotton bolls older than 15 days.
