2019

There is consensus in the labor law doctrine that the concept of worker must be interpreted according to the social reality of the moment in which it should be applied. The present work analyzes what this affirmation means in the current moment of expansion of digital platforms and autonomous work in general. For that, i) the existing proposals in the comparative doctrine of extension of the subjective scope of Labor Law are analyzed; ii) the aims of labor law; iii) the latest interpretations of the Supreme Court of the concept of worker. Based on this analysis, a purposive interpretation proposal is made of the concept of worker that allows to include all those who provide services without…

2021

The preponderance given to teleworking or remote work due to the health crisis is pushing to blur the line that separates effective work time from leisure and rest time. In the end, it practically causes the employee to never disconnect from work. And this is so because Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) push workers to have a constant time and location availability, even outside their working hours. In this sense, communications from bosses, co-workers or even clients through different means like now are not surprising: emails that need an urgent answer, phone calls at untimely hours or, especially in the sense of this article, through the smartphone, either by SMS messages -…

Language and Symbolic Play in Toddlers

1997

Language-play relations were examined in 110 18-month-old toddlers by observing their play actions in the Symbolic Play Test and assessing their language skills with the CDI parental report and the Reynell Developmental Language Scales. Significant associations between both language comprehension and production (vocabulary, use of suffixes, utterance length) and play were found when percentage of symbolic play was used as the measure of play competence. The total play score which included both functional-relational toy manipulation and symbolic play was not as strongly associated with the language measures. In both play measures relations were, however, higher between play and language com…

Relationship between speech perception and production skills and morphosyntactic development in Spanish-speaking children with Speech Sound Disorders

2021

2019

The development of phonological awareness, the knowledge of the structural combinatoriality of a language, has been widely investigated in relation to reading (dis)ability across languages. However, the extent to which knowledge of phonemic units may interact with spoken language organization in (transparent) alphabetical languages has hardly been investigated. The present study examined whether phonemic awareness correlates with coarticulation degree, commonly used as a metric for estimating the size of children's production units. A speech production task was designed to test for developmental differences in intra-syllabic coarticulation degree in 41 German children from 4 to 7 years of a…

Old French Parataxis: syntactic variant or stylistic variation?

2012

The existence of paratactic constructions in Old French is a well-known fact, as in the following: Co sent Rollanto la veue ad perdue‘Roland feels (that) he has lost his sight’ (Chanson de Roland2297). These structures alternate with structures containing que: Co sent Rollant que s’espee li tolt‘Roland feels that his sword has been taken from him’ (Chanson de Roland2284). Although traditional philologists note that different types of asyndetic subordinate clauses exist, they do not provide an explanation of how and why such structures alternate with those introduced by que. Moreover, a detailed analysis reveals that the distribution of paratactic constructions does not seem to be homogeneou…
