Laboratory practical sessions are critical to scientific training in biology but usually fail to promote logical and hypothesis-driven reasoning and rely heavily on the teacher's instructions. This paper describes a 2-day laboratory practicum in which students prepare and analyze larval cuticle preparations of Drosophila segmentation gene mutant strains. Embryonic segmentation involves three major classes of genes according to their loss-of-function phenotypes: the establishment of broad regions by gap genes, the specification of the segments by the pair-rule genes, and the compartments within segments by the segment polarity genes. El objetivo de este estudio consiste en analizar los indicadores de inclusión en una muestra de escuelas de la ciudad de Cuenca, Ecuador, y comparar las percepciones entre diferentes agentes educativos. Para ello, se les aplicó el Index for Inclusion a 19 directores(as) de centros educativos, 156 familias y 30 graduadas de titulaciones universitarias de Educación. Los resultados evidencian diferencias en la percepción del grado de inclusión en los tres grupos. Se discute el papel del sesgo de deseabilidad social en la interpretación de los resultados. This article focuses on semi-narrative guided interviews with students with visual impairment (VI) who attend a state-approved special school for students with VI at the time of the interview, although they had different previous experiences in both segregated and inclusive schools. We are conducting a qualitative analysis from the perspective of teenagers concerning how they negotiate institutional ascriptions of (dis)abilities. Does Linguistic Analysis Confirm the Validity of Facilitated Communication?

Facilitated communication (FC) has been interpreted as an ideomotor phenomenon, in which one person physically supports another person’s hand and unconsciously affects the content of the writing. Despite the strong experimental evidence against the authenticity of FC output, several studies claim to support its validity based on idiosyncrasies found in the texts produced. A review of these studies showed that, because of the logical circularity of the reasoning proposed in the studies, no decisive evidence that validated FC was presented.
