An Extension of Weyl’s Equidistribution Theorem to Generalized Polynomials and Applications
2020
Author's accepted manuscript. This is a pre-copyedited, author-produced version of an article accepted for publication in International Mathematics Research Notices following peer review. The version of record Bergelson, V., Knutson, I. J. H. & Son, Y. (2020). An Extension of Weyl’s Equidistribution Theorem to Generalized Polynomials and Applications. International Mathematics Research Notices, 2021(19), 14965-15018 is available online at: https://academic.oup.com/imrn/article/2021/19/14965/5775499 and https://doi.org/10.1093/imrn/rnaa035. Generalized polynomials are mappings obtained from the conventional polynomials by the use of the operations of addition and multiplication and taking th…
Varieties of Algebras with Superinvolution of Almost Polynomial Growth
2015
Let A be an associative algebra with superinvolution ∗ over a field of characteristic zero and let $c_{n}^{\ast }(A)$ be its sequence of corresponding ∗-codimensions. In case A is finite dimensional, we prove that such sequence is polynomially bounded if and only if the variety generated by A does not contain three explicitly described algebras with superinvolution. As a consequence we find out that no intermediate growth of the ∗-codimensions between polynomial and exponential is allowed.
Approximation Properties of the Modified Stancu Operators
2017
ABSTRACTIn this article we construct a sequence of Stancu-type operators that are based on a function τ. This function is any function on [0,1] continuously differentiable ∞ times, such that τ(0) =...
Space of signatures as inverse limits of Carnot groups
2021
We formalize the notion of limit of an inverse system of metric spaces with 1-Lipschitz projections having unbounded fibers. The construction is applied to the sequence of free Carnot groups of fixed rank n and increasing step. In this case, the limit space is in correspondence with the space of signatures of rectifiable paths in ℝn, as introduced by Chen. Hambly-Lyons’s result on the uniqueness of signature implies that this space is a geodesic metric tree. As a particular consequence we deduce that every path in ℝn can be approximated by projections of some geodesics in some Carnot group of rank n, giving an evidence that the complexity of sub-Riemannian geodesics increases with the step.
EV-planning: Electric vehicle itinerary planning
2014
International audience; In the latest few years, lot of efforts have been done to pave the way to sustainable mobility, in order to solve pollution problems and fuel shortage. The use of electric vehicles (EV) is considered as one of the best ecologic and economic solution. However, autonomy barriers and limitations slow the progress and the deployment of this technology. In this paper, we propose an advanced electric vehicles' fleet management architecture. This architecture considers the most important factors that can affect the traveling mode of electric vehicles, in order to offer different services to fleet management companies for an efficient monitoring and management of their fleet…
Degrees of characters in the principal block
2021
Abstract Let G be a finite group. We prove that if the set of degrees of characters in the principal p-block of G has size at most 2 then G is p-solvable, and G / O p ′ ( G ) has a metabelian normal Sylow p-subgroup. The general question of proving that if an arbitrary p-block has two degrees then their defect groups are metabelian remains open.
Algebrability of the set of hypercyclic vectors for backward shift operators
2020
Abstract We study the existence of algebras of hypercyclic vectors for weighted backward shifts on Frechet sequence spaces that are algebras when endowed with coordinatewise multiplication or with the Cauchy product. As a particular case, we obtain that the sets of hypercyclic vectors for Rolewicz's and MacLane's operators are algebrable.
Set valued integrability in non separable Fréchet spaces and applications
2016
AbstractWe focus on measurability and integrability for set valued functions in non-necessarily separable Fréchet spaces. We prove some properties concerning the equivalence between different classes of measurable multifunctions. We also provide useful characterizations of Pettis set-valued integrability in the announced framework. Finally, we indicate applications to Volterra integral inclusions.
Existence of a traveling wave solution in a free interface problem with fractional order kinetics
2021
Abstract In this paper we consider a system of two reaction-diffusion equations that models diffusional-thermal combustion with stepwise ignition-temperature kinetics and fractional reaction order 0 α 1 . We turn the free interface problem into a scalar free boundary problem coupled with an integral equation. The main intermediary step is to reduce the scalar problem to the study of a non-Lipschitz vector field in dimension 2. The latter is treated by qualitative topological methods based on the Poincare-Bendixson Theorem. The phase portrait is determined and the existence of a stable manifold at the origin is proved. A significant result is that the settling time to reach the origin is fin…
The recruitment of scallops (and beyond) by two different artificial collectors (Gulf of Taranto, Mediterranean Sea)
2015
This study provides for the first time an evaluation of the natural availability of scallop seeds along the coastal area of Taranto (Mediterranean Sea, Southern Italy). To select the best artificial collectors to harvest scallop seeds in this area, cylindrical collectors (Cyl) were compared to traditional 'Japanese-style onion bags' (Bag) across three sites. Scallops represented 26.6% of total bivalve recruitment among all collectors (782 ± 331 ind. m-2). The most recruited scallops were Flexopecten glaber and Mimachlamys varia. The white (F. glaber) and black scallops (M. varia) were abundant at all three sites, while the queen scallop, Aequipecten opercularis, was only found at one site. …
