Sourcing on the internet: Examining the relations among different phases of online inquiry

This study examined students’ engagement in sourcing throughout online inquiry, that is, when they specified the information need, formulated search queries, evaluated online texts, and composed a written product. Participants were 167 upper secondary school students. Students completed an online inquiry task in a restricted online environment that utilized authentic online texts. Students’ prior topic knowledge and reading fluency was measured and controlled for in the analysis. Performance Assessment of Critical Thinking: Conceptualization, Design, and Implementation

Enhancing students’ critical thinking (CT) skills is an essential goal of higher education. This article presents a systematic approach to conceptualizing and measuring CT. CT generally comprises the following mental processes: identifying, evaluating, and analyzing a problem; interpreting information; synthesizing evidence; and reporting a conclusion. We further posit that CT also involves dealing with dilemmas involving ambiguity or conflicts among principles and contradictory information. We argue that performance assessment provides the most realistic—and most credible—approach to measuring CT. Abstract Research-based discussions about 21st-century skills are currently needed; 21st-century skills refer to skills that today's students are expected to possess for successful future careers. The ways students perceive these skills or what kind of dispositions they have in this regard are significant. This paper provides an overview of the development of pre-service teachers' perceived 21st-century skills and dispositions. Sākoties jaunajam mācību gadam, pakāpeniska jaunā mācību satura ieviešana ir kļuvusi par vienu no svarīgākajām sarunu tēmām skolās. Projekta Skola2030 mērķis bija attīstīt skolēniem vairākas svarīgas 21. gadsimta prasmes, kā arī koncentrēt uzmanību uz mācību priekšmetu padziļinātu izpratni un padziļināti izprast mācību vielu nevis sadrumstaloti. 2020./2021. mācību gadu skolēni pavadīja attālināti, un tas sagādāja grūtības attīstīt rakstīšanas prasmes angļu valodas mācību stundās. Tāpēc tika izvēlēta daudznozaru un savstarpējās sadarbības pieeja, lai attīstītu visas nepieciešamās prasmes.
