The Application of CRISPR/Cas9 Technology for Cancer Immunotherapy: Current Status and Problems

2022

Cancer is one of the main causes of disease-related deaths in the world. Although cancer treatment strategies have been improved in recent years, the survival time of cancer patients is still far from satisfied. Cancer immunotherapy, such as Oncolytic virotherapy, Immune checkpoints inhibition, Chimeric antigen receptor T (CAR-T) cell therapy, Chimeric antigen receptor natural killer (CAR-NK) cell therapy and macrophages genomic modification, has emerged as an effective therapeutic strategy for different kinds of cancer. However, many patients do not respond to the cancer immunotherapy which warrants further investigation to optimize this strategy. The clustered regularly interspaced short …

INCIDENCE OF PSYCHOTIC DISORDERS IN PALERMO: PRELIMINARY DATA

2012

Background: The incidence of psychotic disorders varies in different geographical areas (McGrath 2004). Recent data suggest that the incidence is higher in males, migrant minorities and in urban areas. There aren’t many available epidemiological data on the incidence of psychotic disorders in Italy. This is the first incidence study on psychotic disorders carried out in Palermo, the capital of Sicily. Methods: we screened all patients presenting with their first episode of psychosis to the mental health services of our catchment area (5 inpatient, 5 outpatient units and 3 private psychiatric hospitals) over a period of three years (2008-2011). The diagnosis of psychosis was defined using th…

Optimality of Increasing Stability for an Inverse Boundary Value Problem

2021

In this work we study the optimality of increasing stability of the inverse boundary value problem (IBVP) for the Schrödinger equation. The rigorous justification of increasing stability for the IBVP for the Schrödinger equation were established by Isakov [Discrete Contin. Dyn. Syst. Ser. S, 4 (2011), pp. 631--640] and by Isakov et al. [Inverse Problems and Applications, Contemp. Math. 615, American Math Society, Providence, RI, 2014, pp. 131--141]. In [Discrete Contin. Dyn. Syst. Ser. S, 4 (2011), pp. 631--640] and [Inverse Problems and Applications, Contemp. Math. 615, American Math Society, Providence, RI, 2014, pp. 131--141], the authors showed that the stability of this IBVP increases …

Effect of air on oxygen p-doped graphene on SiO2

2016

Stability in ambient air or in vacuum-controlled atmosphere of molecular oxygen-induced p-type doping of graphene monolayer on SiO2 substrate on Si is investigated by micro-Raman spectroscopy and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The Raman 2D and G bands spectral positions and amplitude ratio are affected by the permanence in air atmosphere in a time scale of months whereas the vacuum safely maintains the doping effects determined through Raman bands. No morphological effects are induced by the doping and post-doping treatments. A reactivity of ambient molecular gas with stably trapped oxygen is suggested to induce the doping modification. Novel organo-modifier for thermally-stable polymer-layered silicate nanocomposites

2015

A new novel approach for the stabilisation of polymer-clay nanocomposites has been investigated based on reacting chemically an antioxidant function, a hindered phenol moiety, with an organic modifier based on a quaternary ammonium salt. The chemically linked antioxidant-containing organic modifier (AO-OM) was then introduced into natural montmorillonite (MMt) through a cation-exchange reaction resulting in antioxidant-containing organo-modified clay (AO-OM-MMt). The new antioxidant-containing modified clay, along with other organo-modified clays having a similar organo-modifier but without the reacted antioxidant, were characterised by spectroscopic, thermogravimetric and x-ray diffraction…

Multi-parameter analysis of the obstacle scattering problem

2022

Abstract We consider the acoustic field scattered by a bounded impenetrable obstacle and we study its dependence upon a certain set of parameters. As usual, the problem is modeled by an exterior Dirichlet problem for the Helmholtz equation Δu + k 2 u = 0. We show that the solution u and its far field pattern u ∞ depend real analytically on the shape of the obstacle, the wave number k, and the Dirichlet datum. We also prove a similar result for the corresponding Dirichlet-to-Neumann map.

Two Ways of Understanding Persons: A Husserlian Distinction

2019

This paper clarifies the distinction that Edmund Husserl makes between two different ways of understanding other persons, their actions and motivations: the experiential or empirical way, on the one hand, and the genuinely or authentically intuitive way, on the other hand. The paper argues that Husserl’s discussion of self-understanding clarifies his concept of the intuitive understanding of others and allows us to explicate what is involved in it: not just the grasping of the other’s actual motivations of action but also the grasping of her motivational possibilities. The paper ends by discussing the dynamic character of the personal subject.
