Continuous-Variable Tomography of Solitary Electrons

A method for characterising the wave-function of freely-propagating particles would provide a useful tool for developing quantum-information technologies with single electronic excitations. Previous continuous-variable quantum tomography techniques developed to analyse electronic excitations in the energy-time domain have been limited to energies close to the Fermi level. We show that a wide-band tomography of single-particle distributions is possible using energy-time filtering and that the Wigner representation of the mixed-state density matrix can be reconstructed for solitary electrons emitted by an on-demand single-electron source. Two new alkoxido-bridged heterometallic complexes of formula [CoIICoIII 3CuII 3(dea)6(CH3COO)3](ClO4)0.75(CH3COO)1.25 (1) and [CoII 2CoIII 2ZnII 3(tea)2(piv)6(CH3O)2(OH)2(CH3OH)2]·H2O 2 (H2dea=diethanolamine, H3tea=triethanolamine and Hpiv=pivalic acid) have been assembled using aminoalcohol ligands. The cationic core in 1 possesses a threefold crystallographic axis, and it exhibits a set of three copper(II), one cobalt(II) and three cobalt(III) ions arranged as a hexagon of alternating copper(II) and cobalt(III) ions around the central cobalt(II) ion. Validation of Powder X-Ray Diffraction Following EN ISO/IEC 17025

:  Powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) is used widely in forensic science laboratories with the main focus of qualitative phase identification. Little is found in literature referring to the topic of validation of PXRD in the field of forensic sciences. According to EN ISO/IEC 17025, the method has to be tested for several parameters. Trueness, specificity, and selectivity of PXRD were tested using certified reference materials or a combination thereof. All three tested parameters showed the secure performance of the method. Real-space multiple scattering method for angle-resolved photoemission and valence-band photoelectron diffraction and its application to Cu(111)

Abstract: A computational method is presented for angle-resolved photoemission spectra (ARPES) and photoelectron diffraction (PED) in the ultraviolet regime. The one-step model is employed and both initial valence and final continuum states are calculated using the finite-cluster, real-space multiple scattering method. Thereby the approach is versatile and provides a natural link to core-level PED. The method is applied to the Cu(111) valence band and good agreement with experiment is found for both ARPES spectra and PED patterns. Nonlinear diffusion in transparent media: the resolvent equation

Abstract We consider the partial differential equation u - f = div ⁡ ( u m ⁢ ∇ ⁡ u | ∇ ⁡ u | ) u-f=\operatornamewithlimits{div}\biggl{(}u^{m}\frac{\nabla u}{|\nabla u|}% \biggr{)} with f nonnegative and bounded and m ∈ ℝ {m\in\mathbb{R}} . We prove existence and uniqueness of solutions for both the Dirichlet problem (with bounded and nonnegative boundary datum) and the homogeneous Neumann problem. Solutions, which a priori belong to a space of truncated bounded variation functions, are shown to have zero jump part with respect to the ℋ N - 1 {{\mathcal{H}}^{N-1}} -Hausdorff measure. Results and proofs extend to more general nonlinearities.
