Combining conventional chemotherapy and γδ T cell-based immunotherapy to target cancer-initiating cells.

According to common beliefs, conventional anticancer chemotherapy is deleterious for the immune system. We have recently provided in vitro evidence indicating that conventional chemotherapy may potentiate, rather than impair, the long-term efficacy of γδ T cell-based anticancer immunotherapy.

Purpose The aim of this work was to determine dose distributions for high-energy brachytherapy sources at spatial locations not included in the radial dose function gL(r) and 2D anisotropy function F(r,θ) table entries for radial distance r and polar angle θ. The objectives of this study are as follows: 1) to evaluate interpolation methods in order to accurately derive gL(r) and F(r,θ) from the reported data; 2) to determine the minimum number of entries in gL(r) and F(r,θ) that allow reproduction of dose distributions with sufficient accuracy. 3D modeļa iegūšana no attēliem

Šajā darbā tiek apskatīti dažādi iespējamie risinājumi, kurus varētu izmantot, lai ģenerētu koka lapas dzīslojuma trīsdimensiju modeli no lapas detalizēta attēla. Modeļa ģenerēšanas problēma tiek apskatīta, jo tā izveide ar modelēšanas programmas palīdzību ir sarežģīts un laikietilpīgs process. Lai risinātu aprakstīto problēmu, darbā vispirms tiek pētīta dzīslojuma izgūšanas problēma no sākotnējā lapas attēlā, pēc tam tiek apskatīta dzīslojuma 3D modeļa ģenerēšana no izgūtās dzīslojuma informācijas. Darba rezultātā tiek izmantotas dažādas pieejas un algoritmi, lai iegūtu koka lapas dzīslojuma divdimensionālo reprezentāciju un 3D modeli no tā.

Pyrene, a Test Case for Deep-Ultraviolet Molecular Photophysics

We determined the complete relaxation dynamics of pyrene in ethanol from the second bright state, employing experimental and theoretical broadband heterodyne detected transient grating and two-dimensional photon echo (2DPE) spectroscopy, using pulses with duration of 6 fs and covering a spectral range spanning from 250 to 300 nm. Multiple lifetimes are assigned to conical intersections through a cascade of electronic states, eventually leading to a rapid population of the lowest long-living excited state and subsequent slow vibrational cooling. Reduced regional systolic function evolved compacted segments in noncompaction

Abstract In a recent report about noncompaction Nemes et al. reported that systolic left ventricular (LV) dysfunction assessed using the wall motion score during 2D echocardiography in noncompaction is not confined to noncompacted LV segments. These results confirmed some published reports of our group. Recently we analyzed a population of 238 patients affected by noncompaction, and demonstrated that the number of noncompacted segment is uncorrelated with the degree of systolic dysfunction. The FLO Diffusive 1D-2D Model for Simulation of River Flooding

An integrated 1D-2D model for the solution of the diffusive approximation of the shallow water equations, named FLO, is proposed in the present paper. Governing equations are solved using the MArching in Space and Time (MAST) approach. The 2D floodplain domain is discretized using a triangular mesh, and standard river sections are used for modeling 1D flow inside the section width occurring with low or standard discharges. 1D elements, inside the 1D domain, are quadrilaterals bounded by the trace of two consecutive sections and by the sides connecting their extreme points. Kuuden minuutin kävelytestin soveltuvuus työikäisten tyypin 2 diabeetikoiden fyysisen kunnon mittauksessa ja liikuntaneuvonnan työkaluna

Tämän tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli selvittää soveltuuko kuuden minuutin kävelytesti mittaamaan työikäisten tyypin 2 diabeetikoiden fyysistä kuntoa. Lisäksi tutkimuksessa selvitettiin kuntoutujien mielikuvia kuuden minuutin kävelytestistä fyysisen kunnon mittarina ja liikuntamuutosten tukijana. Tutkimus toteutettiin vuonna 2009 kuudella Suomen Diabetesliiton järjestämällä työikäisten, tyypin 2 diabeetikoiden kuntoutuskurssilla. Yhteensä tutkimukseen osallistui 78 koehenkilöä, joista oli 42 naista ja 36 miestä. Here, the authors report the optical modification of topographical and optical properties of monolayer MoS2 with femtosecond pulses under an inert atmosphere. A formation of three-dimensional structures on monolayer MoS2 with tunable height up to ≈20 nm is demonstrated. In contrast to unmodified monolayer MoS2, these optically modified structures show significantly different optical properties, such as lower photoluminescence intensity and longer fluorescence lifetime.
