Abstract Background and aim Low back pain (LBP) is a debilitating problem worldwide causing disability and reducing quality of life. The Fear Avoidance Beliefs Questionnaire (FABQ) was developed on the basis of the assumption that fear-avoidance beliefs play a major role in LBP-related disability. It comprises 16 items scored by the patient and includes sub-scores for fear-avoidance beliefs regarding work and physical activity. AbstractThe aim of the study was to explore how fatigue was experienced and explained in life stories of women with a long history of fibromyalgia to gain a deeper understanding of fatigue as a phenomenon. The data was drawn from the narrative interviews of 20 purposively chosen women with fibromyalgia. In the analysis, the ideas of episodic reading and paradigmatic analysis of narratives were used to find recurrent and repeated experiences of fatigue from the data. Five main themes emerged from the data: sleepless nights, physical weakness, loss of mental energy, social withdrawal and overwhelming exhaustion. The primary aim of the present study was to investigate the acute gene expression responses of PGC-1 isoforms and PGC-1a target genes related to mitochondrial biogenesis (cytochrome C), angiogenesis (VEGF-A), and muscle hypertrophy (myostatin), after a resistance or endurance exercise bout. Evaluation of automated hematologic VCS parameters in severe sepsis and septic shock: a case-control study.

A cheap and quick hematologic diagnostic parameter for detection of sepsis would have both economic and therapeutic benefits. The Coulter LH series hematology analyzer uses the VCS technology (Volume, Conductivity, Laser Scatter) providing information about cell volume, size, internal structure, and surface morphology. Many authors analyzed the clinical usefulness of VCS parameters in reactive neutrophils for detection of sepsis. An increase in mean cell volume and a decrease in mean light scatter in septic patients have been described. Our aim is to verify the correlation between VCS parameters and sepsis.

The receptor for advanced glycation end products (RAGE) plays an important role in the progression of these diseases.
