To date, computational approaches have been recognized as a key component in drug design and discovery workflows. Developed to help researchers save time and reduce costs, several computational tools have been developed and implemented in the last twenty years. Everyday Appropriations of Information Technology: A Study of Creative Uses of Digital Cameras

Repurposive appropriation is a creative everyday act in which a user invents a novel use for information technology (IT) and adopts it. This study is the first to address its prevalence and predictability in the consumer IT context. In all, 2,379 respondents filled in an online questionnaire on creative uses of digital cameras, such as using them as scanners, periscopes, and storage media. The data reveal that such creative uses are adopted by about half of the users, on average, across different demographic backgrounds. On the Coincidence of the Feedback Nash and Stackelberg Equilibria in Economic Applications of Differential Games

In this paper the scope of the applicability of the Stackelberg equilibrium concept in differential games is investigated. Firstly, conditions for obtaining the coincidence between the Stackelberg and Nash equilibria are defined in terms of the instantaneous pay-off function and the state equation of the game. Secondly, it is showed that for a class of differential games with state-interdependence both equilibria are identical independently of the player being the leader of the game. Abstract This paper presents ‘expert opinions’ on what should be taught in a first-year linear algebra course at university; the aim is to gain a generic picture and general guiding principles for such a course. Design and Investigation of a Touch Gesture for Dividing in a Virtual Manipulative Model for Equation-solving

AbstractPhysical models for equation solving typically lack feedback regarding their appropriate use. Such feedback is possible in virtual environments and could be implemented in hybrid models. Based on an epistemological analysis, this article presents a touch gesture as a way for users to signal they want to divide both sides of an equation and a design for feedback on the use of this so-called ‘division gesture’. Multiword Units in Machine Translation and Translation Technology

This article describes a new word alignment gold standard for German nominal compounds and their multiword translation equivalents in English, French, Italian, and Spanish. The gold standard contains alignments for each of the ten language pairs, resulting in a total of 8,229 bidirectional alignments. It covers 362 occurrences of 137 different German compounds randomly selected from the corpus of European Parliament plenary sessions, sampled according to the criteria of frequency and morphological complexity.
