Comparative law. Analysis of the right to personal and family privacy, and right to Identity. Consideration of public information as an essential element of the practice of techniques
The Effect of Education on Under-Five Mortality: Individual and Community-Level Effects in Bangladesh
2019
This paper investigates the relationship between parental education and child survival, considering both the influence of the maternal and paternal educational level and the influence of communitylevel male and female education on under-five mortality. The research is focused on Bangladesh, a country where the impressive decline in the under-five mortality rate between 1990 and 2015 was attributed both to female empowerment and to the increase in the general level of education in the country. Using the Bangladesh Demographic and Health Survey from 2014, this paper investigates both the effect of individual-level parental education and of community-level education on under-five mortality, th…
El tipo de cambio real dólar-euro y el diferencial de intereses reales
2006
This paper investigates whether threshold effects exist in the relationship between dollar-euro real exchange rate and real interest differential, over the period January 1984 to December 2004. We specify a three-regime threshold model and the results provide evidence that there is no threshold effect in the short term, but the nonlinear behaviour of real exchange rate implies threshold effect in the long term. On the other hand, the nonlinearity into the behaviour of real exchange rates can be modelled by a Band-TAR which implies a symmetric response to the real interest differential outside the bank. Finally, into the threshold band the behaviour of real exchange rate is near to follow a …
UN PAÍS MÁS EXTRANJERO QUE LA CHINA: LIBROS ESPAÑOLES EN LAS LIBRERÍAS PARISINAS DEL SIGLO XVIII
2018
The image of Spain in 18th century Europe, and in Paris in particular, could be described as bittersweet. Despite the shared dynastic ties of France and Spain, and a few scattered and short-lived attempts by some intellectuals and journals to offer a benevolent image of Spain, the Parisians of the day continued to regard Spain as a country barely modern, a victim of its own inaction and subject to the rigours of the Inquisition. We are aware of these stereotypes thanks largely to literary works. This is not necessarily the case with bibliographic sources. If we are to clarify the «image» of Spain, we need to go down into the street and consider how people saw, or rather read about, the coun…
Operators on Partial Inner Product Spaces: Towards a Spectral Analysis
2014
Given a LHS (Lattice of Hilbert spaces) $V_J$ and a symmetric operator $A$ in $V_J$, in the sense of partial inner product spaces, we define a generalized resolvent for $A$ and study the corresponding spectral properties. In particular, we examine, with help of the KLMN theorem, the question of generalized eigenvalues associated to points of the continuous (Hilbertian) spectrum. We give some examples, including so-called frame multipliers.
Environmental DNA analysis indicates that migration barriers are decreasing the occurrence of European eel (Anguilla anguilla) in distance from the s…
2020
Abstract The European eel (Anguilla L.) is considered critically endangered by the IUCN Red List, and recruitment remains low. One of the challenges for the species today is migration barriers that limit their habitat. Along the Norwegian coast, like in other countries, the abundance of eels appears to decrease with distance from the sea. This pattern may be a result of factors like water temperature, water quality, competition, and habitat suitability and availability. This study aims to use environmental DNA (eDNA) analysis to investigate the potential relationship between migration barriers and the decreasing occurrence of eels in distance from the sea by the coast of southern Norway. Si…
Solitary polypoid laryngeal xanthoma.
2013
We report the case of a 51-year-old male smoker with diabetes mellitus and hyperlipidaemia and a long history of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)/hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection treated with various antiretroviral regimes, who was referred to the otolaryngology department with progressive dysphonia. Fibre-optic laryngoscopy showed a solitary, yellowish-white pedunculated polyp on the anterior third of the left cord, with no other abnormality. Pathological analysis revealed a polypoid laryngeal xanthoma that was immunoreactive against CD68, perilipin, and adipophilin. This unusual laryngeal lesion in the clinical context of our patient suggests a possible role of antiretroviral treatment…
Pathobiology of Hodgkin Lymphoma
2010
Despite its well-known histological and clinical features, Hodgkin's lymphoma (HL) has recently been the object of intense research activity, leading to a better understanding of its phenotype, molecular characteristics, histogenesis, and possible mechanisms of lymphomagenesis. There is complete consensus on the B-cell derivation of the tumor in most cases, and on the relevance of Epstein-Barr virus infection and defective cytokinesis in at least a proportion of patients. The REAL/WHO classification recognizes a basic distinction between lymphocyte predominance HL (LP-HL) and classic HL (cHL), reflecting the differences in clinical presentation and behavior, morphology, phenotype, and molec…
Splenomegaly Impacts Prognosis in Essential Thrombocythemia and Polycythemia Vera: A Single Center Study
2019
Splenomegaly is one of the major clinical manifestations of primary myelofibrosis and is common also in other chronic Philadelphia-negative myeloproliferative neoplasms, causing symptoms and signs and affecting quality of life of patients diagnosed with these diseases. We aimed to study the impact that such alteration has on thrombotic risk and on the survival of patients with essential thrombocythemia and patients with Polycythemia Vera (PV). We studied the relationship between splenomegaly (and its grade), thrombosis and survival in 238 patients with et and 165 patients with PV followed at our center between January 1997 and May 2019.
