Company values guiding the recruitment of employees with a foreign background

Purpose In this paper, the following research question is addressed: Why do business organisations recruit employees with a foreign background? This was examined in terms of the values that guide organisations and their management. The paper aims to discuss this issue. Design/methodology/approach The study focused on two businesses in Finland that are pioneers in the recruitment of immigrants. A case study approach was adopted. An assessment of COVID-19’s impact on Finnish University Leadership

This article maps the management actions that Finnish universities have taken during the COVID-19 pandemic and studies how managers in Finnish higher education coped during the crisis and how they feel about it. Replacing short-haul flights with land-based transportation modes to reduce greenhouse gas emissions: the case of Finland

Even though air travel often provides the fastest transport option, it also has the highest climate impact. Especially on long-haul trips, an aircraft usually represents the only feasible option. Nevertheless, aircraft are more often used on short-haul routes as well. It is the short-haul flights that produce the highest emissions per passenger. These are also the ones that could be replaced the most easily by land-based transportation modes. Secular rise in economically valuable personality traits

2017

Although trends in many physical characteristics and cognitive capabilities of modern humans are well-documented, less is known about how personality traits have evolved over time. We analyze data from a standardized personality test administered to 79% of Finnish men born between 1962 and 1976 (n = 419,523) and find steady increases in personality traits that predict higher income in later life. The magnitudes of these trends are similar to the simultaneous increase in cognitive abilities, at 0.2-0.6 SD during the 15-y window. Abstract Coworking spaces have been established in great numbers around the globe over the past 10 years. Previous studies on coworking spaces argue that these spaces are designed to enable serendipitous encounters. Looking for determinants of willingness-to-pay for Sibelius Hall, Lahti

The aim of this paper is to determine the factors affecting the willingness-to-pay for a local concert hall, namely Sibelius Hall in Lahti. Our study argues that a high income, the use of cultural services and a positive attitude towards culture were connected to a high willingness-to-pay for Sibelius Hall. Our study revealed that “I do not know” answers can be partly explained by the character of cultural preferences being an acquired taste. As a consequence, the users and respondents exhibiting a positive attitude towards culture may choose the “I do not know” option instead of making a zero bid. peerReviewed
