A novel water-soluble BODIPY dye as red fluorescent probe for imaging hypoxic status of human cancer cells

The development of effective methods for real-time monitoring of nitroreductase (NTR) activity is of great significance for medical diagnosis and cancer research. Here, we present a novel water-soluble BODIPY-based chemodosimeter (NBB) for imaging the hypoxic status of human non-small-cell lung cancer A549 cells. We assume that ‘on–off’ response of NBB is activated by the NTRmediated reductive release of meso-phenol BODIPY dye resulting in unusual fluorescence.

Nanoincorporation of curcumin in polymer-glycerosomes and evaluation of their in vitro–in vivo suitability as pulmonary delivery systems

The aim of this work was to deliver curcumin into the lungs by incorporating it into innovative vesicles obtained using phospholipids and high concentrations of glycerol (50%, v/v), so called glycerosomes, which were then combined with two polymers: sodium hyaluronate and trimethyl chitosan to form polymer-glycerosomes. These systems were prepared without the use of organic solvents or acidic solutions and their physico-chemical properties were fully characterized. Abstract C75: Overcoming KRAS/LKB1 mutant NSCLC resistance to BET bromodomain inhibitors with gemcitabine or Mcl-1 inhibition

Abstract The purpose of our study was to define a method and mechanism for overcoming the resistance of clinically relevant KRAS-mutant/LKB1-deficient NSCLC cells to the BET-bromodomain inhibitor JQ1. LKB1 (Serine/threonine kinase 11) is mutated with loss of function in conjunction with mutated KRAS in 7-10% of NSCLC. Importantly, KRAS-mutant/LKB1-deficiency is associated with tumor aggressiveness and poor survival in human patients as well as in genetically engineered mouse models. The Coordination of Uranyl in Water: A Combined Quantum Chemical and Molecular Simulation Study

The coordination environment of uranyl in water has been studied using a combined quantum mechanical and molecular dynamics approach. Multiconfigurational wave function calculations have been performed to generate pair potentials between uranyl and water. The quantum chemically determined energies have been used to fit parameters in a polarizable force field with an added charge transfer term. Molecular dynamics simulations have been performed for the uranyl ion and up to 400 water molecules. The results show a uranyl ion with five water molecules coordinated in the equatorial plane.
