Solitary Myofibroma of the Bladder Trigone in a 3-Month-Old Patient: First Case Report

Visceral solitary myofibromas are uncommon in childhood. We report a case of a solitary asymptomatic visceral myofibroma of the bladder trigone occurring in a 3-month-old boy. Once malignancies were ruled out by cystoscopy, radical excision was performed in order to avoid any potential impairment of bladder dynamic. Postoperative course was uneventful and patient was discharged on day 3 after surgery. After 36 months of follow-up, the patient is toilet-trained and remains well; bladder function is normal.

Early developmental alterations of low-Mg2+ -induced epileptiform activity in the intact corticohippocampal formation of the newborn mouse in vitro.

Abstract The generation, propagation and pharmacological properties of low-Mg 2+ -induced epileptiform activity were examined in the intact corticohippocampal formation (CHF) of the newborn (P0–4) mouse in vitro. Multi-site field potential recordings in dentate gyrus (DG), CA3, CA1, entorhinal cortex (EC) and temporal cortex (TC) revealed in 0.2 mM Mg 2+ -containing ACSF a stable pattern of spontaneous epileptiform activity consisting of recurrent ictal-like events (ILEs) and interictal events (IEs). Estrogen receptor agonists and immune system in ovariectomized mice.

Several data implicate the immune system in bone lost after estrogen deficiency, however, some of the effects on the immune system of estrogen deficiency or of estrogen receptor (ER) modulation are not well established. In this study, the effect of ER agonists on the immune system in ovariectomized mice is analyzed. Mice were ovariectomized and were administered 17β-estradiol (E2), raloxifene (RAL) or genistein (GEN). The effect of a 4-week treatment on bone turnover and on several parameters that reflect the status of the immune system was studied. Comparative effects of estradiol, raloxifene, and genistein on the uterus of ovariectomized mice.

To explore the uterine effects of administration of compounds that exert their bone-sparing functions through estrogen receptors, we administered 17beta-E2, raloxifene, or genistein to ovariectomized mice and analyzed the uterus weight and histology 4 weeks after beginning the treatments. Results indicated that raloxifene and genistein have partial agonistic properties on the uterus in estrogen-depleted mice, and that genistein induced apoptosis and several atypias in the glandular epithelium of endometrium, as demonstrated in hematoxylin-eosin-stained histological sections.

Multiple Congenital Colonic Stenosis: A Rare Gastrointestinal Malformation

Congenital colonic stenosis is a rare pediatric condition. Since 1968, only 16 cases have been reported in the literature. To the authors’ knowledge, multiple congenital colonic stenosis has not been previously reported in the literature. We report the case of a 2-month-old male, presented at our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit with a suspicion of intestinal malrotation. Clinical examination revealed persistent abdominal distension. Cardiac pacemaker function of HCN4 channels in mice is confined to embryonic development and requires cyclic AMP.

Important targets for cAMP signalling in the heart are hyperpolarization-activated and cyclic nucleotide-gated (HCN) channels that underlie the depolarizing 'pacemaker' current, I(f). We studied the role of I(f) in mice, in which binding of cAMP to HCN4 channels was abolished by a single amino-acid exchange (R669Q).
