Next generation water-smart management systems: large scale demonstrations for a circular economy and society
Water security is among the most crucial challenges for water management today. As a consequence, innovative water management solutions and alternative water resources are required. The EU-funded WATER-MINING project will exhibit and validate innovative next-generation water resource solutions at the pre-commercial demonstration-scale in accordance with relevant legislation, such as the Water Framework Directive, Circular Economy and EU Green Deal packages. It will combine water management services with the improvement of renewable resources such as mining water. It is envisaged that the value-added end products will offer supplies of regional resources to increase economic growth. The proj…
Laboratory of Wine Microbiology and Biotecnology
Research lines: - Ecology and diversity. Taxonomy. Molecular methods for detection and identification. Studies on the ecology of yeast and bacterial species in wine. Taxonomic analysis and description of new species. Development of various methodologies for the detection, identification, and quantification of organisms present in wine. Quality control. Control of the implantation of starter cultures. - Metabolism of acidic sugars and amino acids in lactic acid bacteria. This research line aims to understand the abilities of microorganisms to use substrates present in must or wine, to determine how these substrates affect the growth of bacteria, and to understand the effect of their u…
Laboratory of social cognitive neuroscience
During the last decades, research in the field of Neuroscience has made amazing discoveries that have transformed our understanding and improved our comprehension of brain function. This has contributed to the development of new treatments and therapies for various neurological disorders and mental illnesses. The convergence of different disciplines has allowed addressing fundamental issues for the knowledge of human behavior, thought, and emotion. LabNSC group is within this area, Neuroscience, undoubtedly one of the most exciting areas of research in Health Sciences. The Laboratory of Social Cognitive Neuroscience (LabNSC) at the University of Valencia is part of the Department of Psychob…
Reproductive Medicine
Infertility, or the inability to conceive a child, is a medical condition recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO) that causes serious health problems for affected women, as well as significant epidemiological and sociological repercussions for society. It is estimated that this condition affects 15% of couples worldwide, with its incidence increasing, affecting 10% of couples who want to conceive their first child and between 10-25% of those who want to have a second child. The European Parliament's report on the future demographic of Europe (2007/2156 (INI)) highlights the need to consider infertility as a sensitive and important issue for consideration in articles 25 and 26. The…

Biological environmental monitoring and bioanalitycs
The Team research since 2002 concerns the use of biological monitoring methods in assessing the state of environmental pollution. Research topics that We implement include issues related to, among others sorption properties of algae and aquatic plants and the possibility of their use in biological monitoring of heavy metal surface water pollution. We also study the possibilities of using various bioindicators, including lichens, mosses, tree bark in the monitoring of heavy metal pollution of atmospheric aerosol. Currently, we measure selected heavy metals in plants (we also mark analytes in soil, food products, human hair, invertebrates), but next year we will be measuring polycyclic aromat…

IT Security
Analysis of various security aspects of communication protocols, in particular Key Exchange Protocols (IKE & IKEv2) and VPN protocols (IPsec). Evaluation of security levels in IoT/IoE networks. Design and deployment of computer systems, that measures the level of cyberthreats in close physical proximity of the actor. Detection of anomalies, trends and threats in IT security by utilizing machine learning, statistical methods, game theory, semantic networks.
Chemistry and technology of polymers and polymer materials
Our research covers the following main areas: (1) the design, synthesis and characterization of homogeneous and supported on inorganic carriers catalysts for coordination polymerization, (2) study of alkylaluminium ionic liquids, determination of physical properties and application as a medium of polymerization reaction, (3) evaluation of synthesized catalysts in olefin (co)polymerization, ethylene-norbornene copolymerization and cyclic esters polymerization, (4) modification of polyethylene by copolymerization of ethylene with higher olefins, polar monomers and other comonomers, (5) preparation and characterization of (nano)composites based on polymers and biopolymers with inorganic and or…
