Ravensara aromatica Sonnerat is a tree endemic to Madagascar. The essential oil extracted from the leaves is used in aromatherapy. Previous chemical studies have generated some confusion with regard to the chemical composition of this essential oil. In order to eliminate this uncertainty, we undertook a systematic evaluation of the chemical composition of essential oils from leaves of this species. The study focused on 28 individual samples formally identified as R. aromatica. The essential oils were obtained by hydrodistillation and analysed by GC and GC–MS. Eastern boundary upwelling systems (EBUS) are among the most productive marine ecosystems on Earth. The production of organic material is fueled by upwelling of nutrient-rich deep waters and high incident light at the sea surface. However, biotic and abiotic factors can mod- ify surface production and related biogeochemical processes. Determining these factors is important because EBUS are considered hotspots of climate change, and reliable predic- tions of their future functioning requires understanding of the mechanisms driving the biogeochemical cycles therein. Fungal keratitis (FK) is a serious and sight-threatening corneal infection with global reach. The need for prompt diagnosis is paramount, as a delay in initiation of treatment could lead to irreversible vision loss. Current “gold standard” diagnostic methods, namely corneal smear and culture, have limitations due to diagnostic insensitivity and their time-consuming nature. PCR is a newer, complementary method used in the diagnosis of fungal keratitis, whose results are also sample-dependent. Diplomdarba tēma. Krūts vēža ārstēšana gados vecām pacientēm Latvijā. Ievads. Krūts vēzis ir otrā biežākā onkoloģisko slimību lokalizācijas vieta sieviešu populācijā. Ik gadu saslimšana ar krūts vēzi palielinās par aptuveni 1100 jauniem gadījumiem, mirstības līmenis nemazinās, gada laikā mirst aptuveni 430 saslimušās sievietes. Darba mērķis. Izpētīt un apkopot faktus par pacientu saslimstību ar krūts vēzi Latvijā, tā izplatītākos veidus, kā arī saņemto ķirurģisko un vispārējo ārstēšanas taktiku gados vecām pacientēm.
