Quality of autochthonous Sicilian plums

Thirty four plum local varieties and accessions obtained from different growing area of the Sicilian island were analyzed for their qualitative and nutraceutical properties and three commercialcultivar were used as references. These properties included the fruit fresh weight (g), the pulp firmness (FFF), the total soluble solids (TSS), the titratable acidity (TA), the total anthocyanins,the phenolics content and the antioxidant activity.This preliminary study showed significantly differeces among the plums; Zuccarato giallo and Prunu Niuru presented TSS higher than the commercial cultivars (24.9 and 21.6 °Brix respectively)and interesting data obtained on the nutraceutical compounds values …

Un acercamiento al léxico sobre cocina en lengua quechua nos podría proporcionar algunas claves sobre su importancia en tiempos del imperio inca y sobre la que tiene, en el momento presente, la cocina patrimonial del Perú . No hace mucho un hablante de quechua nos decía convencido : " Piru llaqta wayk'uyninqa sumaqnin" (" la cocina de Perú es realmente exquisita").

El primer paso en todo aquello que comprende el ámbito patrimonial es el reconocimiento de la herencia recibida. Luego hay otros: su conservación y ampliación y finalmente su transmisión a los descendientes.Todo esto ha sucedido con el quechua y el aimara en Perú, como si la lengua fuera ajena a los bienes nacionales. Es tan sagrada una piedra de Machu Picchu como una palabra de estas lenguas: tan importante es el lntiwatana, anteayer descubierto y hoy lacerado, como el significado de sus dos lexemas juntos lnti "sol", watay "atar, calcular su recorrido".

In questo saggio si traccia un profilo della studiosa, pedagogista e filosofa palermitana Fanny Giambalvo considerando vita e opere e tenendo insieme testimonianza affettiva ed elaborazione concettuale. Parallelamente viene condotta una riflessione sulla tradizione culturale siciliana in ambito formativo e filosofico, a partire da un’analisi di alcuni temi cari alla Giambalvo. In particolare vengono delineati alcuni tratti che si legano alla sua persona sul piano umano e culturale, si intrecciano tra loro e si inseriscono nella tradizione intellettuale siciliana che dagli anni venti del‘900 arriva fino ai nostri giorni.
LMX and Well-Being: Psychological Climates as Moderators of their Concurrent and Lagged Relationships

The importance of the quality of leader member exchange (LMX) for workers’ health and well-being is acknowledged in the literature, and empirical research addressing this issue is beginning to accumulate. However, recent reviews on this topic recommend making a greater effort to include time and boundary conditions in this relationship. The present study aims to analyze the effects of LMX on employees’ well-being, and the moderating role of psychological climate, by means of a longitudinal study with a 12-month time lag. “Moralistic” punishment of free riders can provide a beneficial reputation, but the immediate behavior is costly to the punisher. In Study 1, we investigated whether variation in status would be perceived to offset or mitigate the costs of punishment. One hundred and nineteen participants were presented with a vignette describing a punishment scenario. Participants predicted whether punishment would occur, how successful it would be, and indicated their attitude to the punisher. One of the central landmarks of learning to read is the emergence of orthographic processing (i.e., the encoding of letter identity and letter order): it constitutes the necessary link between the low-level stages of visual processing and the higher-level processing of words.
