Primary Frequency Control in the Power System of Continental Europe including the Dynamics of the HVDC Link France-Great Britain

The paper presents a study of primary frequency control within the power system of Continental Europe (CE) including the dynamics of the high voltage direct current (HVDC) link between France and Great Britain (GB). The large-scale dynamic model of the CE system originally provided by ENTSO-E is extended with a more detailed representation of the whole HVDC interconnection. The dynamics of the GB synchronous area is also considered in the analysis, implementing a system equivalent suitable for primary frequency control studies. Potassium regulates IL-1 beta processing via calcium-independent phospholipase A2.

Abstract We report that potassium leakage from cells leads to activation of the Ca2+-independent phospholipase A2 (iPLA2), and the latter plays a pivotal role in regulating the cleavage of pro-IL-1β by the IL-converting enzyme caspase-1 in human monocytes. K+ efflux led to increases of cellular levels of glycerophosphocholine, an unambiguous indicator of phospholipase A2 activation. Both maturation of IL-1β and formation of glycerophosphocholine were blocked by bromoenol lactone, the specific iPLA2 inhibitor. Heavy-Ion Radiation Impact on a 4Mb FRAM under Different Test Conditions

The impact of heavy-ions on commercial Ferroelectric Memories (FRAMs) is analyzed. The influence of different test modes (static and dynamic) on this memory is investigated. Static test results show that the memory is prone to temporary effects occurring in the peripheral circuitry. Dynamic tests results show a high sensitivity of this memory to heavy-ions.

Abstract The release of choline as a water-soluble product of phospholipid hydrolysis was measured in the perfusate of rat hearts to monitor ischemic membrane degradation and its protection by ischemic preconditioning (IPC). Hearts were subjected to global ischemia (GI; 30 min of no-flow) followed by 60 min of reperfusion. To induce IPC, GI was preceded by four no-flow episodes of 5 min each. Deleterious consequences of GI and reperfusion, namely coronary flow reduction, incidence of arrhythmias and release of cardiac troponin T, were significantly attenuated by IPC. Coupling electromagnetic waves in a cavity and mechanical vibrations via the radiation pressure of photons is a promising platform for investigations of quantum–mechanical properties of motion. A drawback is that the effect of one photon tends to be tiny, and hence one of the pressing challenges is to substantially increase the interaction strength. Anomalous current in diffusive ferromagnetic Josephson junctions

We demonstrate that in diffusive superconductor/ferromagnet/superconductor (S/F/S) junctions a finite, anomalous Josephson current can flow even at zero phase difference between the S electrodes. The conditions for the observation of this effect are noncoplanar magnetization distribution and a broken magnetization inversion symmetry of the superconducting current. The latter symmetry is intrinsic for the widely used quasiclassical approximation and prevented previous works based on this approximation from obtaining the Josephson anomalous current.
