Particle size based recovery of phosphorus from combined peat and wood fly ash for forest fertilization
2016
Abstract Correlations between the concentrations of P, K, and As with particle size in fly ash from power plants were examined with a viewpoint to obtain fractions suitable for forest fertilization. Fly ash samples from several CHP plants were fractionated by using four sieves and the five fractions were analyzed by ICP-OES; it was found that both P and K are concentrated in smallest size (
Planning land use for biogas energy crop production: The potential of cutaway peat production lands
2016
Each year, thousands of hectares of peatland that had been harvested are being released in Finland, which can offer an opportunity to increase energy crops and attain the bioenergy targets for non-agriculture lands. In this study, the Geographic Information System (GIS) method was used to improve the assessment of decentralized renewable energy resources. The amount of peat production lands and future cutaway areas for energy crop production was calculated as a case study by using ArcGIS and the Finnish Topographic database. There are almost 1000 km2 of peat production lands in Finland, and theoretically, approximately 300 km2 of cutaway peatlands could be used for energy crops after 30 yea…
Materiāls skolotājiem par tematu “Kvadrātvienādojumi” 9. klasē
2021
Long-term follow-up and novel genotype-phenotype analysis of monozygotic twins with ATP1A3 mutation in Alternating Hemiplegia of Childhood-2
2020
Alternating Hemiplegia of Childhood (AHC) is a rare disorder characterized by frequent, transient attacks of hemiplegia involving either side of the body or both in association to several other disturbances including dystonic spells, abnormal ocular movements, autonomic manifestations, epileptic seizures and cognitive impairment. The clinical manifestations usually start before the age of 18 months. Two forms of the disorder known as AHC-1 (MIM#104290) and AHC-2 (MIM#614820) depends on mutations in ATP1A2 and ATP1A3 genes respectively, with over 75% of AHC caused by a mutation in the ATP1A3 gene. Herewith, we report serial clinical follow-up data of monozygotic (MZ) twin sisters, who presen…
Eventually periodic solutions of single neuron model
2020
In this paper, we consider a nonautonomous piecewise linear difference equation that describes a discrete version of a single neuron model with a periodic (period two and period three) internal decay rate. We investigated the periodic behavior of solutions relative to the periodic internal decay rate in our previous papers. Our goal is to prove that this model contains a large quantity of initial conditions that generate eventually periodic solutions. We will show that only periodic solutions and eventually periodic solutions exist in several cases.
Dielectric breakdown strength of epoxy bimodal-polymer-brush-grafted core functionalized silica nanocomposites
2014
The central goal of dielectric nanocomposite design is to create a large interfacial area between the matrix polymer and nanofillers and to use it to tailor the properties of the composite. The interface can create sites for trapping electrons leading to increased dielectric breakdown strength (DBS). Nanoparticles with a bimodal population of covalently anchored molecules were created using ligand engineering. Electrically active short molecules (oligothiophene or ferrocene) and matrix compatible long poly(glycidyl methacrylate) (PGMA) chains comprise the bimodal brush. The dielectric breakdown strength was evaluated from recessed samples and dielectric spectroscopy was used to study the di…
Cytochrome P450 reaction phenotyping and inhibition and induction studies of pinostrobin in human liver microsomes and hepatocytes
2017
Pinostrobin (PI, 5-hydroxy-7-methoxyflavanone) is a natural flavonoid known for its rich pharmacological activities. The objective of this study was to identify the human liver cytochrome P450 (CYP450) isoenzymes involved in the metabolism of PI. A single hydoxylated metabolite was obtained from PI after an incubation with pooled human liver microsomes (HLMs). The relative contributions of different CYP450s were evaluated using CYP450-selective inhibitors in HLMs and recombinant human CYP450 enzymes, and the results revealed the major involvement of CYP1A2, CYP2C9 and CYP2E1 in PI metabolism. We also evaluated the ability of PI to inhibit and induce human cytochrome P450 enzymes in vitro. H…
Effects of caffeine intake on the pharmacokinetics of melatonin, a probe drug for CYP1A2 activity
2003
Aims The aim of this study was to assess the influence of concomitant caffeine intake on the pharmacokinetics of oral melatonin, a probe drug for CYP1A2 activity. Methods Twelve healthy subjects, six smokers and six nonsmokers, were given melatonin (6 mg) either alone or in combination with caffeine (3 × 200 mg). Blood samples for the analysis of melatonin or caffeine and paraxanthine were taken from 1 h before until 6 h after intake of melatonin. Subjects were genotyped with respect to the CYP1A2*1F (C734A) polymorphism. Results When caffeine was coadministered the Cmax and AUC of melatonin were increased on average by 142% (P = 0.001, confidence interval on the difference 44, 80%) and …
Screening of antiinflammatory medicinal plants used in traditional medicine against skin diseases
1998
The antiinflammatory activity of twelve medicinal plants used against skin disorders were tested in different experimental models of topical inflammation and one in vitro inhibitory test against phospholipase A2 (PLA2) from Naja naja venom. Forsythia suspensa was the most active species on the arachidonic acid (AA) topical test. This last species together with Astragalus membranaceus and Ranunculus sceleratus were the most active on the 12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate (TPA) acute ear oedema test. Scrophularia auriculata was the most active on multiple topical applications of TPA and on the oxazolone-induced delayed type hypersensitivity (DTH). Santolina chamaecyparissus was the only sp…
Involvement of phospholipid metabolism in the events of the oxidative burst of granulocytes
1984
In summary we provide now evidence for specific interactions between the phospholipid metabolism and the oxidative burst. Lysophosphatidylcholine-like molecules showed specific enhancement of the oxidative burst and the capacity to replace phospholipase A2 function. Our findings might be useful in further studying the events occurring on the way from receptor stimulation to activation of the oxidative burst.
