Sotilaiden voimistelu on ollut varhaisinta järjestäytynyttä ruumiinkulttuuria Suomessa. Artikkelini kuvaa tämän voimistelun kehityskaarta Ruotsin vallan ajalta toiseen maailmansotaan. Vaikutteet harjoituksiin saatiin pääasiassa saksalaisista aatteista ja esikuvista. Sotilasvoimistelun kehityksessä voidaan erottaa neljä vaihetta, jotka ovat heijastaneet kulloistakin sotilasihannetta ja sen perustana ollutta sodankäynnin tapaa. Tämän tutkimuksen tarkoituksena on selvittää, mikä on viestinnän rooli uhanalaisten eläinlajien suojelussa. Kohdeorganisaationa on WWF Nepal. Nepal valikoitui kohteeksi, sillä maassa on saatu aikaan merkittäviä suojelusaavutuksia. Nepal on muun muassa saavuttanut jo neljä kertaa vuoden mittaisen jakson, jonka aikana ei ole salametsästetty yhtäkään sarvikuonoa. Lisäksi maan sarvikuono- ja tiikerikannat ovat kasvussa. Nepalin uhanalaisten eläinten suojelusta on siis selkeästi opittavaa, ja tämä tutkimus pyrkii etsimään viestinnällisten tekojen vaikutuksia prosessissa. ABSTRACT. On 25 June 1941 Finland embarked on a war against the Soviet Union, as part of Germany’s Operation Barbarossa. The war that was about to begin could be considered acceptable and even advantageous politically. However, theologically this was not necessarily the case. The topic of the article is how the war between the states of Finland and the Soviet Union could be justified publicly in relation to a religion whose core message is not to kill, to turn the other cheek to – and even love – the enemy. A hundred years ago in July, thanks to the advancement of medical technology, the first human received the vaccine Bacille Calmette-Guérin—or BCG—to prevent tuberculosis (TB), a disease that killed at least 20% of the European population during the 19th century. Since then, hundreds of millions of lives have been saved by BCG, as well as other vaccinations for dangerous diseases. However, although TB is quite preventable and curable, it remains the leading cause of death from a single infectious agent in the world.
