Effects of the process conditions on the plume of a laser-irradiated indium–tin-oxide target

Abstract The plume of a laser-ablated indium–tin-oxide target was investigated by optical emission spectroscopy. Atomic and ionic species of indium, tin and oxygen were observed; moreover, molecular bands of indium oxide were identified in the fluorescent spectra. The effects of the oxygen as a background gas and of the laser fluence on the behaviour of the ejected particles were studied with respect to the intensity of the emission and the delay time as a function of the observation distance from the target surface. Periodic unmixing of a binary metallic vapor

2005

We report on a type of surface structuring after short pulse laser ablation of a binary alloy. We observe the emergence of a concentric ring structure with changing elemental composition. The composition changes are interpreted by condensation of the ambient ablation vapor due to stress wave excitations in the ablation spot.

Combined hepatectomy and radiofrequency ablation for multifocal hepatocellular carcinoma: a case report

Introduction: At the present time, the best possible choice for the local management of a multifocal hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) developing on liver cirrhosis is multimodal treatment of the disease. Combined approach based on simultaneous radiofrequency ablation (RFA) together with limited surgical resection represents a valid choice of treatment. Cardiac arrhythmia substrates may be treated by intracardiac ablations which consist in burning specific atrial or ventricular endocardial substrates. Created lesions which are not transmural may be responsible for arrhythmia recurrences. To date, the depth of the lesion inside the endocardium can't be assessed accurately during the procedures. Our experimental work has focused on microwave characterization of biological tissues (in vitro) to assess the burn depth. High-precision momentum measurements of projectile fragments in Sn+Sn collisions at 1·A GeV

Production cross-sections and longitudinal velocity distributions of the projectilelike residues produced in peripheral and mid-peripheral reactions 112Sn + 112Sn and 124Sn + 124Sn both at an incident beam energy of 1 A GeV were measured with the high-resolution magnetic spectrometer, the Fragment Separator of GSI. For both reactions the characteristics of the velocity distributions and nuclide production cross-sections were determined for residues with nuclear charge Z 10. A comparison of the results of the two reactions is presented and the results are studied in the frame of dynamical transport calculations coupled with a statistical multifragmentation code. Development of a carbon-cluster ion source for JYFLTRAP

Abstract A carbon-cluster ion source based on laser ablation and ionization of a carbon sample has been built and tested for the JYFLTRAP setup. In the present configuration the ion source is situated in the electrostatic switchyard in front of the radiofrequency (RFQ) cooler and buncher. In this position the beam quality of the carbon clusters injected into the Penning trap system is considerably improved by the RFQ. Moreover, the mass-dependence of the RFQ’s transmission can be used to some extent to suppress unwanted cluster sizes.

Simulated effects of W dust ablation and deposition on the pedestal edge in JET D and DT experiments

Abstract A modelling analysis is performed on JET D and DT discharges, where W dust influx across the separatrix, in the pedestal edge region may affect L–H–L mode transition. The experimental basis of the proposed approach stems from the observation that transient impurity events (TIEs) are often associated with the presence of a shower of particles seen in the camera images and with strong optical emission.
