CNS depressant effects, anti-inflammatory activity and anti-cholinergic actions ofSantolina chamaecyparissus extracts

1988

The pharmacological activity of several extracts together with the lyophilized infusion of S. chamaecyparissus ssp. squarrosa were investigated. The lethal dose 50% (LD50), effect on animal metabolism, mechanical and thermic analgesia and spontaneous, anti-inflammatory, and anti-ulcer activity have been determined. Studies on isolated organs (rat duodenum and rat uterus) were also carried out. The hexanic and chloroformic extracts were potent antagonists of the thermic analgesia test; the former extract was also active in the mechanical analgesia test. The chloroformic extract and, to a lesser extent, the ethyl acetate extract and lyophilized infusion demonstrated noteworthy activity as ant…

In vivo activity of pseudoguaianolide sesquiterpene lactones in acute and chronic inflammation.

2000

The pseudoguaianolide sesquiterpene lactones 4-alpha-O-acetyl-pseudoguaian-6beta-olide (1), hymenin (2), ambrosanolide (3), tetraneurin A (4), parthenin (5), hysterin (6) and confertdiolide (7) were evaluated for their ability to affect the inflammation responses induced by different agents. All the compounds showed activity against the 12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol 13-acetate (TPA)-induced mouse ear edema. The ethyl phenylpropiolate (EPP)-induced mouse ear edema was inhibited by compounds 3, 5 and 7. However, when sesquiterpene-lactones were assayed on the arachidonic acid (AA)-induced mouse ear edema, none of them were active. The only sesquiterpene lactone orally active against the paw mouse…

Der Einflu von Nebennierenrindenhormonen auf die Vasopressin-Wirkung bei Wasserdiurese intakter Ratten

1959

The influence of 3 day courses of various corticosteroids on the antidiuretic and saluretic activity of vasopressin (1, 10 or 100 mU per rat s. c.) in hydrated, normal, unanesthetized rats was investigated. The corticosteroids tested were Cortisone acetate (25 mg/kg · day s. c.), Cortexone acetate (20 mg/kg · day s. c.), Cortisol acetate (25 mg/kg · day s. c.) and d.l-Aldosterone acetate (0,5 mg/kg · day s. c.).

Zur Wirkung von Butazolidin im Intermedirstoffwechsel

1956

Butazolidin (Phenylbutazone) inhibits the oxidative decarboxylation of pyruvate and α-ketoglutarate in a final concentration of 10 mg-% (3,24 · 10−4 m). Data are presented suggesting that the β-ketothiolase is inhibited. The following enzymes or enzyme systems are not inhibited: The enzymes of the respiratory chain, the enzymes of the citric acid cycle with exception of α-ketoglutaric oxidase, the glycolysis of hexosediphosphate (slight inhibition), acetate thiokinase, sulfanilamid transacetylase, pyruvic decarboxylase from yeast, arginase, xanthine oxidase, and D-amino acid oxidase.

Comparison of roxatidine and ranitidine in the treatment of refractory duodenal ulcer

1994

Abstract Fourteen patients with duodenal ulcer not healed after treatment with ranitidine at the standard dosage of 300 mg/day for 12 weeks were enrolled in the study. Eight patients were treated with roxatidine acetate, 150 mg/day, for 8 weeks (group A); six patients received treatment with ranitidine, 600 mg/day, for 8 weeks (group B). Efficacy of treatment was evaluated on the basis of reduction of ulcer pain, lowering of maximal acid output (MAO) levels, and cicatrization of ulcer lesion. The patients treated with roxatidine showed a significant reduction in MAO levels after 4 weeks, whereas the patients treated with ranitidine showed a significant reduction in MAO levels after 8 weeks.…

ZnO/polyaniline composite based photoluminescence sensor for the determination of acetic acid vapor

2020

In this study, we report a novel ZnO/polyaniline (PANI) nanocomposite optical gas sensor for the determination of acetic acid at room temperatures. ZnO nanorods, synthesized in powder form were coated by PANI (ZnO/ PANI) by chemical polymerization method. The obtained nanocomposites were deposited on glass substrate and dried overnight at room temperature. Structure and optical properties of ZnO/PANI nanocomposite have been studied by using X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, diffuse reflectance and photoluminescence spectroscopy. Tests towards acetic acids were performed in the range of concentrations 1–13 ppm. The adsorption of acetic a…

Early signaling network in tobacco cells elicited with methyl jasmonate and cyclodextrins.

2012

We analyze, for the first time, the early signal transduction pathways triggered by methyl jasmonate (MJ) and cyclodextrins (CDs) in tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum) cell cultures, paying particular attention to changes in cytosolic free Ca(2+) concentration ([Ca(2+)](cyt)), the production of hydrogen peroxide (H(2)O(2)) and nitric oxide (NO), and late events like the induction of capsidiol. Our data indicate that MJ and CDs trigger a [Ca(2+)](cyt) rise promoted by Ca(2+) influx through Ca(2+)-permeable channels. The joint presence of MJ and CDs provokes a first increase in [Ca(2+)](cyt) similar to that observed in MJ-treated cells, followed by a second peak similar to that found in the presence…

Study of quantitative and qualitative variations in essential oils of Sicilian Rosmarinus officials L.

2015

In this study the chemical characterizations of 10 sicilian biotypes of Rosmarinus officinalis L. essential oils are reported. The main goal was to analyze the relationship between the essential oils yield and the geographical distribution of the species plants. The essential oils were analyzed by GC-FID and GC-MS. The statistical methods Hierarchical Cluster Analysis and Principal Component Analysis were used to cluster biotypes according to the chemical composition of the essential oils. The essential oil yield ranged from 0.8 - 2.3 (v/w). 82 compounds have been identified, these represent 96.7-99.9% of the essential oil. The compounds mostly represented in the essential oils were: 1.8- C…
