Nanocomposites are a new class of polymer material with an ultrafine phase dispersion of the order of a few nanometers that shows very interesting properties often very different from those of conventional filled polymers. In this work the mechanical and optical properties of Poly-[ethylene-co-(vinyl acetate)] (EVA copolymer) based nanocomposites have been investigated to evaluate its possible use in several applications. For example, films for covering greenhouse effect. Mechanical properties, and the rigidity in particular, are, on the contrary, quite low. A range of properties of two commercial thermoplastic ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) copolymers, Elvax 420 and Elvax 450, neat and as melt-mixed composite filled with 15 wt.-% of multi-wall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs), are studied in the “as produced” state and after hydrothermal ageing. Addition of MWCNTs into the neat copolymers introduces the functionality of electrical conductivity and significantly improves their mechanical properties, while thermal characteristics are slightly affected by the presence of carbon nanotubes. Seven oleanane-type triterpene saponins were isolated from the methanolic extract of the aerial parts of Bupleurum rotundifolium. Branched polymers starting from ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymers

Abstract Polyethylene-graft-poly-2-phenyl-2-oxazoline, polyethylene-graft-poly-2-methyl-2-oxazoline and polyethylenegraft-poly(ethylene oxide) were prepared using poly(ethylene-co-vinyl chloroformate) as macroinitiator or polyfunctional precursor. The vinyl acetate groups of ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer were hydrolyzed, the corresponding alcohol functions were converted into chloroformate, which in turn was used for grafting of oxazolines. Comb-like polymers with hydrophilic poly(ethylene oxide) grafts with definite length were synthesized as well. The resulting graft copolymers were characterized by GPC, IR, and 1 H-NMR spectroscopy and differential scanning calorimetry.

Abstract The positron-emitting radionuclide 44 Sc with a half-life of 3.97 h and a β + branching of 94.3% is of potential interest for clinical PET. As so far it is available from a 44 Ti/ 44 Sc generator in Mainz, where long-lived 44 Ti decays to no-carrier-added (nca) 44 Sc. The 44 Sc is a trivalent metal cation and should be suitable for complexation with many well established bifunctional chelators conjugated to peptides or other molecular targeting vectors. Condensation of 5,5'-di-tert-butyl-2,2'-dihydroxybiphenyl (1) with formaldehyde yields a cyclic trimer 2 (and tetramer 3) having three (four) methylene groups less than a calix[6]arene (calix[8]arene). Alkylation of the (flexible) trimer with ethyl bromoacetate gives exclusively the stereoisomer 4 with C 2 symmetry, while the isomer with D 3 symmetry is not observed. Two isomers 6a and 6b (C 2 and C 1 symmetry) are obtained by treatment with tert-butyl bromoacetate which both are converted by transesterification with methanol into the same hexamethyl ester 5 having C 2 symmetry. Experimental and estimated saturated vapour pressures of aroma compounds

Abstract The saturated vapour pressure of d-linalool, 2-nonanone, d-limonene and isoamyl acetate were measured using a static method at different temperatures from 223 to 468 K. From the experimental values, Antoine's constants were determined to enable the calculations of the saturated vapour pressures at a given temperature. The saturated vapour pressure of the four aroma compounds at 298 K were respectively 27, 59, 200 and 733 Pa. These results were compared with those obtained using different estimation methods (Antoine–Grain, Watson, Lee–Kesler, Gomez–Thodos, Grain and Mackay).
