Performance of a new device for the clinical determination of light discomfort
2020
PURPOSE To assess the performance of a new device for the clinical determination of light discomfort on a large sample of healthy human subjects. METHODS A total of 489 subjects ranging from 20 to 70 years old (241 men, 248 women) were evaluated with the LUMIZ™ 100 to determine light discomfort. Repeatability was assessed by means of within-subject standard deviation, coefficient of variation (CoV), and intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC). Repeated measures ANOVA, Kruskal-Wallis, and correlation analysis were applied to test for differences between repeated measures, and effect of age on reliability. RESULTS Discomfort thresholds obtained are well distributed across the light intensity…
Magnetic resonance and ultrasound in achilles tendinopathy: Predictive role and response assessment to platelet-rich plasma and adipose-derived strom…
2017
To assess the correlation between magnetic resonance and ultrasound findings and clinical outcome after intratendinous injection of leucocyte-rich platelet-rich plasma or adipose-derived stromal vascular fraction in patients with non-insertional Achilles tendinopathy.Forty-three patients (age: 47.8±5.1, range 29-55) with unilateral or bilateral non-insertional Achilles tendinopathy (58 tendons overall) were randomly assigned to platelet-rich plasma (22 patients, 28 tendons) or adipose-derived stromal vascular fraction (21 patients, 30 tendons) injection group. All patients underwent magnetic resonance (tendon cross-sectional area, signal intensity, maximum anteroposterior thickness were mea…
A phase I study of oral uracil-ftorafur plus folinic acid in combination with weekly paclitaxel in patients with solid tumors.
2002
Ftorafur is an orally available prodrug of 5-fluorouracil (5-FU). Its combination with uracil in a molar ratio of 1:4 (UFT) increases the 5-FU concentration in tumor cells compared with ftorafur alone. Paclitaxel has a broad spectrum of activity against solid tumors and synergic effects with UFT have been demonstrated in vitro. A phase I study was performed to determine the maximum tolerated dose of the combination of UFT and paclitaxel in patients with advanced solid tumors.UFT and folinic acid were applied at 300 mg/m2/day and 90 mg/day, respectively, on days 1-28, repeated on day 36. Paclitaxel was applied on days 1, 8, 15 and 22 of each cycle. The starting dose of paclitaxel was 50 mg/m…
Reliability of knee extension and flexion measurements using the Con-Trex isokinetic dynamometer.
2007
The aim of this study was to evaluate the reliability of isokinetic and isometric assessments of the knee extensor and the flexor muscle function using the Con-Trex isokinetic dynamometer. Thirty healthy subjects (15 males, 15 females) were tested and retested 7 days later for maximal strength (isokinetic peak torque, work, power and angle of peak torque as well as isometric maximal voluntary contraction torque and rate of torque development) and fatigue (per cent loss and linear slope of torque and work across a series of 20 contractions). For both the knee extensor and the flexor muscle groups, all strength data - except angle of peak torque - demonstrated moderate-to-high reliability, wi…
Development and validation of the Urticaria Control Test: a patient-reported outcome instrument for assessing urticaria control.
2013
Background Chronic urticaria is a frequent and debilitating skin disease. Its symptoms commonly fluctuate considerably from day to day. As of yet, the only reliable tool to assess disease activity is the Urticaria Activity Score, which prospectively documents the signs and symptoms of urticaria for several days. Objective We sought to develop and validate a novel patient-reported outcome instrument to retrospectively assess urticaria control, the Urticaria Control Test (UCT). Methods Potential UCT items were developed by using established methods (literature research and expert and patient involvement). Subsequently, item reduction was performed by using a combined approach, applying impact…
Vulnerability to psychotogenic effects of ketamine is associated with elevated D2/3-receptor availability.
2012
Previous positron emission tomography (PET) studies employing competition paradigms have shown either no change or substantial declines in striatal ( 11 C)-raclopride binding after challenge with psychotogenic doses of the N-methyl-D-aspartate antagonist ketamine. We sought to probe the relationship between the severity of ketamine-induced psychotic symptoms and altered dopamine D2/3 receptor availability throughout brain using the high affinity ligand ( 18 F)-fallypride (FP). PET recordings were obtained in a group of 10 healthy, young male volunteers, in a placebo condition, and in the course of an infusion with ketamine at a psychotomimetic dose. Administration of the Positive and Negati…
Inter- and intrarater reliability of two proprioception tests using clinical applicable measurement tools in subjects with and without knee osteoarth…
2017
Abstract Background The therapeutic value of proprioceptive-based exercises in knee osteoarthritis (KOA) management warrants investigation of proprioceptive testing methods easily accessible in clinical practice. Objective To estimate inter- and intrarater reliability of the knee joint position sense (KJPS) test and knee force sense (KFS) test in subjects with and without KOA. Design Cross-sectional test-retest design. Method Two blinded raters performed independently repeated measures of the KJPS and KFS test, using an analogue inclinometer and handheld dynamometer, respectively, in eight KOA patients (12 symptomatic knees) and 26 healthy controls (52 asymptomatic knees). Intraclass correl…
A randomized, controlled phase III trial of nab-Paclitaxel versus dacarbazine in chemotherapy-naïve patients with metastatic melanoma.
2015
The efficacy and safety of nab-paclitaxel versus dacarbazine in patients with metastatic melanoma was evaluated in a phase III randomized, controlled trial.Chemotherapy-naïve patients with stage IV melanoma received nab-paclitaxel 150 mg/m(2) on days 1, 8, and 15 every 4 weeks or dacarbazine 1000 mg/m(2) every 3 weeks. The primary end point was progression-free survival (PFS) by independent radiologic review; the secondary end point was overall survival (OS).A total of 529 patients were randomized to nab-paclitaxel (n = 264) or dacarbazine (n = 265). Baseline characteristics were well balanced. The majority of patients were men (66%), had an Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group status of 0 (7…
The Urticaria Activity Score-Validity, Reliability, and Responsiveness.
2018
Background Chronic spontaneous urticaria is characterized by fluctuating symptoms. Its activity is assessed with the urticaria activity score (UAS). Two versions of the urticaria activity score used for 7 consecutive days (UAS7) are available: (1) The guideline-recommended UAS7, with once-daily documentation, and (2) the UAS7TD, with twice-daily documentation. Objective To better characterize both UAS7 versions with regard to their validity, reliability, sensitivity to change, minimal important difference (MID), and smallest detectable change (SDC). Methods One hundred thirty adult patients with chronic spontaneous urticaria completed both UAS7 versions, the Patients Global Assessment (PatG…
