Emergence of the epibiotic barnacle Xenobalanus globicipitis in Guiana dolphins after a morbillivirus outbreak in Sepetiba Bay, Brazil

Abstract We report on the emergence of the epibiotic barnacle Xenobalanus globicipitis in Guiana dolphins (Sotalia guianensis) from Sepetiba Bay, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in September 2018, six months after a lethal morbillivirus epidemic. Small boat surveys were conducted at the entrance and in the interior of the bay from January 2018 to February 2021. Dolphins were photo-identified and classified according to overall spatial use of the Bay. We examined the potential influence of the period and habitat on the prevalence of X. globicipitis. Nexus and Dirac lines in topological materials

We consider the Z2 topology of the Dirac lines, i.e., lines of band contacts, on an example of graphite. Four lines—three with topological charge N1 = 1each and one with N1 = -1—merge together near the H-point and annihilate due to summation law1 ++-= 1110. The merging point is similar to the real-space nexus, an analog of the Dirac monopole at which the Z2 strings terminate. peerReviewed

Partial data inverse problems and simultaneous recovery of boundary and coefficients for semilinear elliptic equations

We study various partial data inverse boundary value problems for the semilinear elliptic equation $\Delta u+ a(x,u)=0$ in a domain in $\mathbb R^n$ by using the higher order linearization technique introduced in [LLS 19, FO19]. We show that the Dirichlet-to-Neumann map of the above equation determines the Taylor series of $a(x,z)$ at $z=0$ under general assumptions on $a(x,z)$. The determination of the Taylor series can be done in parallel with the detection of an unknown cavity inside the domain or an unknown part of the boundary of the domain. Mūsdienās aizvien aktuālāka kļūst augu makroskopisko atlieku izmantošana paleoklimatoloģijā. Maģistra darbs saistīts ar klimata rekonstruēšanu pēc līdzāspastāvēšanas iespējamības novērtējuma (CRACLE) metodes. Pētījuma izstrādes laikā tika veiktas Ziemeļeiropas mūsdienu klimata un Latvijas paleoklimata rekonstrukcijas, izmantojot nogulumos esošo augu makroskopisko, kā arī mikroskopisko atlieku uzskaites datus. Rekonstruētie klimata parametri tika novērtēti ar līdz šim zināmo teoriju un instrumentālajiem mērījumiem.
