Velocity profiles have been collected in three points within the Castellammare gulf at around 1500 m far from the coastline. This area is characterized by the presence of an aquaculture farm that positioned 5 floating cages in this zone. The impact of this activity on the environment strictly depends on the currents and water exchange. Music is a sound structure of remarkable acoustical and temporal complexity. Although it cannot denote specific meaning, it is one of the most potent and universal stimuli for inducing mood. How the auditory and limbic systems interact, and whether this interaction is lateralized when feeling emotions related to music, remains unclear. Influence of Musical Expertise on the processing of Musical Features in a Naturalistic Setting

Musical training causes structural and functional changes in the brain due to its sensory-motor demands, but the modulatory effect of musical training on music feature processing in the brain in a continuous music listening paradigm, has not been investigated thus far. Recognition of familiarity on the basis of howls: a playback experiment in a captive group of wolves

Playback experiments were conducted with a pack of captive Iberian wolves. We used a habituation–discrimination paradigm to test wolves’ ability to discriminate howls based on: (1) artificial manipulation of acoustic parameters of howls and (2) the identity of howling individuals. Manipulations in fundamental frequency and frequency modulation within the natural range of intra-individual howl variation did not elicit dishabituation, while manipulation of modulation pattern did produce dishabituation. A direct impedance tomography algorithm for locating small inhomogeneities

Impedance tomography seeks to recover the electrical conductivity distribution inside a body from measurements of current flows and voltages on its surface. In its most general form impedance tomography is quite ill-posed, but when additional a-priori information is admitted the situation changes dramatically. In this paper we consider the case where the goal is to find a number of small objects (inhomogeneities) inside an otherwise known conductor. Acoustic spectral hole-burning in a two-level system ensemble

AbstractMicroscopic two-level system (TLS) defects at dielectric surfaces and interfaces are among the dominant sources of loss in superconducting quantum circuits, and their properties have been extensively probed using superconducting resonators and qubits. We report on spectroscopy of TLSs coupling to the strain field in a surface acoustic wave (SAW) resonator. The narrow free spectral range of the resonator allows for two-tone spectroscopy where a strong pump is applied at one resonance, while a weak signal is used to probe a different mode. The Influence of Human Walking Activities on the Doppler Characteristics of Non-stationary Indoor Channel Models

This paper analyzes the time-variant (TV) Doppler power spectral density of a 3D non-stationary fixed-to-fixed indoor channel simulator after feeding it with realistic trajectories of a walking person. The trajectories of the walking person are obtained by simulating a full body musculoskeletal model in OpenSim. We provide expressions of the TV Doppler frequencies caused by these trajectories. Then, we present the complex channel gain consisting of fixed scatterers and a cluster of moving scatterers.
