Surface properties of effector cells in antibody-dependent cell mediated cytotoxicity (ADCC) are at present under intensive investigation. Among these cells a lymphocyte population (K cells) has been described with receptors for the Fc portion of IgG (4), receptors for complement (11) and lacking receptors for sheep red blood cells (SRBC) and surface immunoglobulin (13). The purpose of the present study was to investigate more thoroughly the relationship between K cell activity in ADCC and cells bearing receptors for C3b and C3d.

Biothiols, taurine, and flavonols, as well as tocopherols and carotenoids have been assessed in the edible pulp of Sicilian red (Sanguigna), yellow (Surfarina), and white (Muscaredda) cultivars of cactus pear. The yellow cultivar has the highest level of reduced glutathione (GSH, 8.1 +/- 0.78 mg/100 g pulp), whereas the white cultivar showed the highest amount of cysteine (1.21 +/- 0.12 mg/100 g pulp). Taurine accounted for 11.7 +/- 1.0 mg/100 g in the yellow pulp, while lower levels were measured in the others. The present review gives an overview of the ethnobotany, phytochemistry and pharmacology of the Cedrus genus, e.g. cytotoxic, spasmolytic immunomodulatory, antiallergic, anti-inflammatory and analgesic activities. Cancer patients frequently seek remedies from traditional medicinal plants that are believed to exert less side effects than conventional therapy with synthetic drugs. A long-lasting goal of anti-cancer and anti-microbial therapy research is to find compounds with reduced side effects compared to currently approved drugs. In the proposed selection of cases, traditional imaging is integrated with contemporary diagnostic tools available in the cath-lab to navigate the potential mechanisms underlying a very rare complication occurring in the recovery phase of dobutamine-atropine stress echocardiography. The data, collected in a time frame of nearly 15 years, provide interesting elements to possibly evolve from speculative considerations to plausible confirmation of the candidate pathophysiological mechanism mediating the occurrence of transmural myocardial ischaemia after beta-blockers administration.

1. Parasites may affect breeding success of their host since they compete for the same resources as their hosts. Reproduction may also increase the susceptibility of a host to parasite infections owing to lowered resistance to parasites during breeding. 2. We studied the association between breeding performance and haematozoan parasite infection in the Pied Flycatcher (Ficedula hypoleuca) by using both natural data on reproduction and data from clutch size manipulations. 3.
