Visualization practices in Scandinavian newsrooms : a qualitative study
2017
The visualization of numeric data is becoming an important element in journalism, and new tools and platforms make the development of data visualization in the news discourse accelerate. In this paper we present an interview study investigating this development in Scandinavian newsrooms. Editorial leaders, data journalists, graphic designers, and developers in 10 major news organizations in Norway, Sweden and Denmark inform the study on a range of issues concerning visual practices and experiences in the newsrooms. Elements of tension are revealed on issues concerning the role and effect of complex, exploratory data visualizations and concerning the role of ordinary journalists in the produ…
Generation Z and Organizational Listening on Social Media
2020
Young people are avid users of social media and have appeared as a powerful force for social change, as shown by the ranks of those who have joined Greta Thunberg in the global climate movement. In addition to challenging political institutions and governments, young people today are also holding the corporate world accountable. To respond to young people’s expectations, brands, and organizations have turned to social media to interact and build relationships with them. However, critics have lamented that these attempts often fail and that young people’s trust in institutions, brands, and organizations continues to decline. This article asks how young people perceive organizational listenin…
Testing cross-lagged relationships between work-related rumination and well-being at work in a three-wave longitudinal study across 1 and 2 years
2019
The aim of this three-wave longitudinal study conducted among 664 Finnish employees was to examine the cross-lagged relationships between various work-related ruminative thoughts (affective rumination, problem-solving pondering, lack of detachment from work) during off-job time and employee well-being (exhaustion, vigour). We tested normal, reversed, and reciprocal temporal relationships across 1 and 2 years using structural equation modelling. The analyses lent most support to the reversed temporal relationships, showing first that high exhaustion predicted low problem-solving pondering 2 years later and second, that high vigour predicted low affective rumination both 1 and 2 years later. …
Tautas mākslas mantojuma un laikmetīgās jaunrades sintēze krāsainajos izšuvumos mājturībā un tehnoloģijās 5. klasē
2017
Diplomdarba “Tautas mākslas mantojuma un laikmetīgās jaunrades sintēze krāsainajos izšuvumos mājturībā un tehnoloģijās 5. klasē” mērķis ir izpētīt tautas mākslas mantojuma un laikmetīgās jaunrades sasaisti, izstrādājot mācību saturu mācību tēmai “Atstarotāja izgatavošana krāsaino izšuvumu tehnikā 5.klasei” mājturībā un tehnoloģijās, un praktiski to pārbaudīt Jaunmārupes pamatskolā. Diplomdarba teorētiskajā daļā aplūkotas tautas mākslas mantojuma vieta tehnoloģiju laikmeta kultūras procesos un izglītībā un pedagoģisko nosacījumu teorētiskā izpratne mācību satura izstrādei. Praktiskajā daļā izveidots stundu tematiskais plāns mācību tēmai “Atstarotāja izgatavošana krāsaino izšuvumu tehnikā 5.k…
Exposure to trihalomethanes through different water uses and birth weight, small for gestational age, and preterm delivery in Spain
2011
Background: Evidence associating exposure to water disinfection by-products with reduced birth weight and altered duration of gestation remains inconclusive. Objective: We assessed exposure to trihalomethanes (THMs) during pregnancy through different water uses and evaluated the association with birth weight, small for gestational age (SGA), low birth weight (LBW), and preterm delivery. Methods: Mother–child cohorts set up in five Spanish areas during the years 2000–2008 contributed data on water ingestion, showering, bathing, and swimming in pools. We ascertained residential THM levels during pregnancy periods through ad hoc sampling campaigns (828 measurements) and regulatory data (264 me…
Jaw osteonecrosis management around a dental implant inserted 2 years before starting treatment with zoledronic acid
2015
Journal Article; Bisphosphonates (BP) are a type of drug known to inhibit bone resorption through complex interventions. Their primary mechanism of action is aimed at the cellular level, inhibiting osteoclast activity and so bone resorption. BPs are widely used, with many patients receiving continuous treatment for years. But it is well known that these drugs can produce osteonecrosis of the jaw (ONJ). Zoledronic acid (ZA) is an intravenous BP used in the treatment and prophylaxis of bone disease in patients with malignant tumors with bone implication. ZA is the most potent BP in clinical development. This report describes the case of a 62-year-old woman with breast cancer antecedents which…
Dielectric characterization of biocompatible hydrogels for application to Epidermal RFID devices
2015
Functionalized skin-like membranes are currently under investigation for the design of a new class of Epidermal Electronics devices for sensing and healing applications. The dynamic response of epidermal antennas in presence of absorption and release of fluids is a key-point to design RFID radio-sensors and actuators. This paper addresses the characterization of the dielectric property of PVA-based biocompatible hydrogel membranes in the UHF RFID band by means of a modified ring resonator. Samples having different compositions are measured in the dry state as well as when exposed to a progressive release of body fluids emulating perspirations or wound exudates. It was found that the permitt…
Differential gene expression in p53-mediated G(1) arrest of human fibroblasts after gamma-irradiation or N-phosphoacetyl-L-aspartate treatment.
2000
In human fibroblasts, N:-phosphoacetyl-L-aspartate (PALA) and gamma-radiation induce reversible and irreversible p53-mediated G(1) cell cycle arrest, respectively. By coupling the premature chromosome condensation technique to fluorescence in situ hybridization, we found no evidence of DNA damage after PALA treatment. We used representational difference analysis (cDNA-RDA) to study changes in gene expression after PALA treatment and gamma-radiation in normal human fibroblasts. The mammary-derived growth inhibitor (MDGI) gene was expressed in PALA-treated cells. Ectopic MDGI expression arrested PALA-treated but not irradiated RKO cells. Expression of an antisense RNA against MDGI resulted in…
Moderate-Vigorous Physical Activity across Body Mass Index in Females : Moderating Effect of Endocannabinoids and Temperament
2014
Altres ajuts: This manuscript was supported by grants from Instituto Salud Carlos III (FIS PI11/210 and CIBERobn). Sarah Sauchelli is recipient of a pre-doctoral Grant (2013-17) by IDIBELL. Jose C. Fernández-García is recipient of a 'Rio Hortega' contract from 'Instituto de Salud Carlos III', Madrid, Spain (CM12/00059). The funders had no role in the study design, data collection and analysis, decision to publish, or preparation of the manuscript. Endocannabinoids and temperament traits have been linked to both physical activity and body mass index (BMI) however no study has explored how these factors interact in females. The aims of this cross-sectional study were to 1) examine differences…
Molecular characterization and evolution of the protein phosphatase 2A B' regulatory subunit family in plants.
2002
Abstract Type 2A serine/threonine protein phosphatases (PP2A) are important components in the reversible protein phosphorylation events in plants and other organisms. PP2A proteins are oligomeric complexes constituted by a catalytic subunit and several regulatory subunits that modulate the activity of these phosphatases. The analysis of the complete genome of Arabidopsis allowed us to characterize four novel genes, AtB′ε, AtB′ζ,AtB′η, and AtB′θ, belonging to the PP2A B′ regulatory subunit family. Because four genes of this type had been described previously, this family is composed of eight members. Reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction experiments showed thatAtB′ε mRNAs are prese…
