The use of biological immunostimulants is considered a valuable practice to improve culture conditions in aquaculture sector that may help to increase production and maintain healthy environment. We undertook this study in order to evaluate the potential effect of the administration of two exopolysaccharides (EPS) "EPLB" and "EPB" derived from potential probiotic strains on immune and antioxidant status of European sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax L.) larvae. Comparative study to predict toxic modes of action of phenols from molecular structures.

Quantitative structure-activity relationship models for the prediction of mode of toxic action (MOA) of 221 phenols to the ciliated protozoan Tetrahymena pyriformis using atom-based quadratic indices are reported. The phenols represent a variety of MOAs including polar narcotics, weak acid respiratory uncouplers, pro-electrophiles and soft electrophiles. Šī pētījuma mērķis ir noskaidrot apmierinātības ar darbu sakarības ar apmierinātību ar komunikāciju un darbaholismu. Noskaidrot, vai pastāv statistiski nozīmīgas sakarības starp apmierinātību ar darbu un apmierinātību ar komunikāciju, kā arī starp apmierinātību ar darbu un darbaholismu. Papildus noskaidrot, kā apmierinātība ar komunikāciju un darbaholisms prognozē apmierinātību ar darbu organizācijā. Pētījuma izlasi veido 93 respondenti, dažādos uzņēmumos strādājoši, ar dažādiem darba stāžiem, izglītību un amatu, no kuriem 52 = sievietes un 41 = vīrietis, vecumā no 22 līdz 65 gadi. Gene-diet interaction in plasma lipid response to plant sterols and stanols: A review of clinical trials

Abstract Plant sterols and stanols (PS) are well known for their cholesterol-lowering effect by reducing intestinal absorption of cholesterol. However, genetic factors modulate the low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) response to PS therapy. This review examines clinical trials evaluating the impact of the main genes associated with response of plasma lipid concentrations to PS intake: APOE, CYP7A1, ABCG5/G8, NPC1L1, CETP, APOA4/A5, SCARBI, HMGCR, PPARα, LIPC, MTHFR and LPA. Heuristics and meta-heuristics for 2-layer straight line crossing minimization

AbstractThis paper presents extensive computational experiments to compare 12 heuristics and 2 meta-heuristics for the problem of minimizing straight-line crossings in a 2-layer graph. These experiments show that the performance of the heuristics (largely based on simple ordering rules) drastically deteriorates as the graphs become sparser. A tabu search metaheuristic yields the best results for relatively dense graphs, with a GRASP implementation as close second. Furthermore, the GRASP approach outperforms all other approaches when tackling low-density graphs.
