Studies of Tz= -3/2 nuclei of astrophysical interest

This thesis presents a summary of experimental studies of -decaying Tz = 3=2 nuclei 23Al and 31Cl. The properties of these nuclei and the respective -decay daughters, 23Mg and 31S, have an in uence on the end products of ONe nova outbursts. The experiments were carried out at the IGISOL facility in the Accelerator laboratory of University of Jyväskylä and at the Cyclotron institute of Texas A&M University. The mass excess of 23Al was determined with Penning trap mass spectrometry by using the JYFLTRAP setup at IGISOL facility. The new mass excess is two orders of magnitude more precise than the previous value. A good agreement between theory and experimental values was found when applying…

Solutions of the LPD equation and multi-parametric rogue waves

Quasi-rational solutions to the Lakshmanan Porsezian Daniel equation are presented. We construct explicit expressions of these solutions for the first orders depending on real parameters. We study the patterns of these configurations in the (x, t) plane in function of the different parameters. We observe in the case of order 2, three rogue waves which move according to the two parameters. In the case of order 3, six rogue waves are observed with specific configurations moving according to the four parameters.
Trialling the 4C framework in an Indian grade 3 mathematics classroom

This thesis describes an action research carried out in a Grade 3 maths classroom in a low income, English medium school in Mumbai, India. The maths teacher in the study used the 4C model proposed by Do Coyle (2010) as a framework of Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) for teaching maths in English to students whose exposure to English outside the classroom was negligible. The aim of this research was to understand from a teacher’s perspective how the 4C framework contributed to this specific context and how group-work enhanced the 4C framework.
