Aggregation of [Ln(12)(III)] clusters by the dianion of 3-formylsalicylic acid. Synthesis, crystal structures, magnetic and luminescence properties
2019
Three isostrucutral dodecanuclear clusters with the general formula [Ln(12)(fsa)(12)(mu f(3)-OH)(12)(DMF)(12)]center dot nDMF (fsa(2-) is the dianion of 3-formylsalicylic acid; Ln = Eu 1, Gd 2, Dy 3) have been obtained from the reaction of fromylsalicyclic acid (H(2)fsa), tetrabutylammonium hydroxide and Ln(NO3)(3)center dot 6H(2)O in methanol/DMF. Their structure consists of four vertex-sharing heterocubanes. Each heterocubane unit is assembled from four Ln(III) ions, three mu(3)-OH groups and one mu(3)-oxygen atom arising from the fsa(2-) carboxylato group. The photophysical properties of the europium derivative investigated at both 300 and 80 K sustain a relative intense emission obtaine…
Effect of quaternary ammonium salts on spectral properties of zinc octacarboxyphthalocyanine
2020
Abstract The paper presents results of the research on the influence of quaternary ammonium salts on UV–vis absorption and emission spectra of zinc octacarboxyphthalocyanine (ZnPcOC). Quaternary ammonium salts which show biological activity play a crucial role. In ZnPcOC solutions with a proper concentration of tetrabutylammonium salts (TBAX), a strong bathochromic shift band (λmax = 760 nm – “R” band) showing red fluorescence appears in time. The presence of tetrabutylammonium salt causes pH increase and, consequently, a gradual dissociation of carboxyl groups in ZnPcOC molecule. It seems that –COO— anions present in the ZnPcOC complex can interact with tetraalkylammonium cations, causing …
A Combined Experimental and Theoretical Study of the Ammonium Bifluoride Catalyzed Regioselective Synthesis of Quinoxalines and Pyrido[2,3-b]pyrazines
2015
International audience; Ammonium bifluoride was efficiently used (at a 0.5 mol % loading) to catalyze the cyclocondensation between 1,2-arylenediamines and 1,2-dicarbonyl compounds at room temperature in methanol-water, affording quinoxalines and pyrido[2,3-b]pyrazines in excellent yields. Importantly, 2,8-disubstituted quinoxalines and 3-substituted pyrido[2,3-b]pyrazines were regioselectively formed by reacting aryl glyoxals with 3-methyl-1,2-phenylenediamine and 2,3-diaminopyridine, respectively. Analysis of the DFT reactivity indices allowed to explain the catalytic role of ammonium bifluoride.
Electrochemical and spectroelectrochemical studies of β-phosphorylated Zn porphyrins
2013
The electrochemical and spectroelectrochemical properties of two β-phosphorylated Zn porphyrins, [2-diethoxyphosphoryl-5,10,15,20-tetraphenylporphyrinato]zinc (1) and [2-diisopropoxyphosphoryl-5,10,15,20-tetraphenylporphyrinato]zinc (2), are reported in CH 2 Cl 2 and PhCN containing tetrabutylammonium perchlorate (TBAP) or tetrabutylammonium hexafluorophosphate (TBAPF6) as supporting electrolyte. Under certain solution conditions, three one-electron reductions are observed, with the last process being attributed to the product of a chemical reaction following formation of the porphyrin dianion. Two or three oxidations are observed for the same compounds, again depending upon the solution c…
Electrochemically-driven conformational shift in mono- and di-copper constrained macrotricyclic cyclen receptors
2008
International audience; An electrochemical study of mono- and di-copper constrained cyclen macrotricycles is presented. Electrochemical data in DMF solution indicate that the reduction of dinuclear complexes occurs in two steps in the -0.4 to -0.8 V vs.AgCl/Ag potential range yielding CuII CuI and CuI CuI species further reduced to Cu metal at highly negative potentials. Mononuclear complexes are reduced in two steps to CuI and Cu metal. Electrochemical data suggest that reduction of both mononuclear and dinuclear complexes approach a square scheme involving electrochemically-driven conformational shifts for metal ions. The presence of endo- and exo-forms of the complexes are revealed by ch…
Determination and Toxicology Studies of Quaternary Ammonium Salts in Solution after Organoclay Processing
2018
Organoclays have potential to be used as additives in various facade paints and other finishing materials. Such new innovative materials must be rigorously tested for them to have no impact on environment. Focus of this study was to develop HPLC – TOF/MS method for determining quaternary ammonium salts in various material washing solutions and to determine organoclay toxicity by performing acute toxicity test on Daphnia magna. From the obtained results, it was possible to conclude that organoclays can be safely used as additives in various materials with low or no impact on environment. We determined that organoclays are significantly less toxic then some quaternary ammonium salts on its ow…
The stoichiometry of particulate nutrients in Lake Tanganyika — implications for nutrient limitation of phytoplankton
1999
We studied the potential nutrient limitation of phytoplankton by means of seston nutrient stoichiometry and nutrient enrichment bioassays in the epilimnion of Lake Tanganyika. In most cases, the particulate carbon to phosphorus (C:P) ratio was high and indicated moderate P deficiency, while the respective C:N ratio mainly suggested moderate N deficiency. The N:P ratios of seston indicated rather balanced N and P supply. In three two-day enrichment bioassays in April—May 1995, a combined addition of P, N and organic carbon (glucose) always increased primary production in comparison to untreated controls. Primary production also slightly increased after the addition of phosphate-P, while the …
Ammonium acts systemically while nitrate exerts an additional local effect on Medicago truncatula nodules
2020
National audience; Symbiotic nitrogen fixation (SNF) has a high energetic cost for legume plants; legumes thus reduce SNF when soil N is available. The present study aimed to increase our understanding regarding the impacts of the two principal forms of available N in soils (ammonium and nitrate) on SNF. We continuously measured the SNF of Medicago truncatula under controlled conditions. This permitted nodule sampling for comparative transcriptome profiling at points connected to the nodules' reaction following ammonium or nitrate applications. The N component of both ions systemically induced a rhythmic pattern of SNF, while the activity in control plants remained constant. This rhythmic a…
Transcriptome analysis of the Populus trichocarpa–Rhizophagus irregularis Mycorrhizal Symbiosis: Regulation of Plant and Fungal Transportomes under N…
2017
Nutrient transfer is a key feature of the arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) symbiosis. Valuable mineral nutrients are transferred from the AM fungus to the plant, increasing its fitness and productivity, and, in exchange, the AM fungus receives carbohydrates as an energy source from the plant. Here, we analyzed the transcriptome of the Populus trichocarpa-Rhizophagus irregularis symbiosis using RNA-sequencing of non-mycorrhizal or mycorrhizal fine roots, with a focus on the effect of nitrogen (N) starvation. In R. irregularis, we identified 1,015 differentially expressed genes, whereby N starvation led to a general induction of gene expression. Genes of the functional classes of cell growth, memb…
Plankton community composition in relation to availability and uptake of oxidized and reduced nitrogen
2003
Centre de Recherche en Ecologie Marine et Aquaculture de L'Houmeau (CNRS-IFREMER), BP 5, 17137 L'Houmeau, France ABSTRACT: Trends in nitrogen utilization, determined with 15 N-labeled substrates, were related to blooms of distinct phytoplankton groups in the Gulf of Riga, Baltic Sea, during May, June and July 1999. The dominant phytoplankton groups included diatoms, cryptophytes, dinoflagellates, and fila- mentous cyanobacteria. As the water column became progressively more stratified over the growing season, diatoms comprised a smaller proportion of the total phytoplankton assemblage and almost disappeared by late summer. Their disappearance correlated with undetectable surface-water nitra…
